TSA’s Top 100 of 2011 – #98 PES 2012

So then, not such a big upset after all. As it turns out, it appears we’re only marginally looking forward to games that get pushed out each year with some acknowledged improvements and tweaked updated team rosters. Colour us surprised.

We think it’s important to mention that, though PES 2012 is technically higher than FIFA 2012, this fact is hardly worth noting. TSA have not just nailed their football scarf to the PES gates over at the Stadium of Konami. If it must be known, the difference between the two aggregate scores after we tallied up everyone’s rankings was almost infinitesimal. The conclusion? We want both football games pretty much equally. As in, more than the likes of Hellion: Mystery of the Inquisition (I may have just given something away there) but nowhere near the likes of … you can use your own imagination. Would it be a shock to learn Killzone 3 will make an appearance in this advent calendar of future wonder? Fine, then. Nowhere near the likes of Killzone 3.

PES 2011 was “back to its sublime best,” and considering the recognised staleness by the industry of the incessant football title release cycle, don’t be surprised if Konami take Pro Evolution Soccer 2012 to an even higher level next year. We sure hope they do.

  1. My was right! Only one place higher than Fifa! Loving this so far, keep it up.

    • *cough* meant me not my! Eagerness to get first post meant a bad typo!

    • There are no rewards for first.
      :)

      • Unless you happen to competiting in the Olympics, then you get a medal.

      • Note to self: like medals, must sign up for “Olympics”.

  2. PES is consistantly worse than FIFA in the last few years yet everone still rates the game higher, you say about fifa’s tweaks being small and pes making more obvious ones, yet fifa is still the better game and its tweaks are always improvements to the game, yet as always its rated higher than fifa. obviously this must just be personal opinion as i hate pes and find it too arcadey. and will choose any of the ea 12 titles over pes.

    • Some good points. Just to be clear, PES2011 and FIFA2011 *both* got 8/10 here at TSA. What’s the better game? I have no idea as I haven’t played either. The PES vs. FIFA schism is like east coast vs. west coast, Pepsi Vs. Coke, Sega vs Nintendo in the 90s and any number of other brand rivalries. People like what they like for various reason.

As mentioned above, considering where both titles have fallen on our “anticipation list” (and the fractional difference in scores), the level of expectation is pretty much the same for both games, and not exceptionally high for either.

      • Just for reference, East coast vs. West coast was sorted years ago. Great Yarmouth is way cooler than Morecambe.

      • Oh SNAP!

(I don’t know where those places are, but I get where you’re coming from.)

    • Pes 2011 this year is actually a massive improvement over the last few releases. I would actually say that this year, PES is better than FIFA..

  3. Pro Evo will finds it feet and will eventually win its crown back!

Fifa has raised the bar which is a win win for everyone really. Pushing quality keeps devs on their toes!

  4. Woooo one place, it will be miles better in gameplay because of this ;)

  5. I believe that pes will be good next year because jon murphy earlier in the year said in an interview to pesgaming that pes 2011 only had half of the new ideas implemented by seabass. This was because an annual yearly release is too little time compared to previous generations of console. Well I hope he is right and we will get to see an amazing game next year :)

  6. I’m hoping with these two yearly games making the list that there is room for the EA rugby game coming out. Its probably the game i’m most looking forward to. Been way too long since Rugby 08.
