We’ve been talking about this for a while, but today Polyphony Digtial has ‘fully revealed’ the “X1 Prototype”, the Red Bull Racing collaboration. Built on the concept of “what if?”, the X1 is the answer to “what would the fastest racing car on Earth, free of any and all regulations look like?”

“The results were thrilling. X1 is about evolution,” says Adrian Newey, Chief Technical Officer at Red Bull Racing. “Delivering the optimum combination of tested technologies in a single integrated design. This would be the future of racing were we not bound by regulations, but one that is achievable today.”

“Today thanks to PlayStation 3 and Gran Turismo we can test drive the future.”

Can we? Today? Well, it would have been next week, but we’re still waiting on that release date, guys. In the meantime, click the link below to watch the brand new video, which, by all accounts, is utterly fabulous (and there’s a rack of new screenshots too, which are well worth looking at).

Oh, and the specs of that game conquering car? 3 litre, 1483bhp. Zoom.

  1. that looks funny going round that track, it doesn’t look real lol

    • That’s because it isn’t real! It only exists in GT5 :-P

      • ahaaaaaa, thanks for that ;-)

  2. Looks just like the Caparo T1 in Red Bull livery to me. Not that it’s a bad thing, mind.

    • It looks more like an F1 car to me. With no regulation constrictions the wheels have been covered for maximum aerodynamic efficiency, as with the cockpit. Whatever it reminds you of I’m sure it wont drive the same. lol
      JET POWWWAAAARRRRRRRRR!! /clarkson

  3. I’ve seen thousands of clips about GT5 (release it now!), but for sure this is the one that excited it the most.
Not for the car (I prefer real cars to prototypes), but seeing how Vettel was focused at the wheel made me think “this is not just a driving game”
    Great video

  4. WOW!!! They should build it. But judging by the last 2 mins of that video, they already have! Either that, or the replay mode of GT5 is incredible ;)

GT5, now, please. Oh, and SCEE, for the love of god, please market GT5 properly! No vague weird surrealist nonsense. Just lots of shiny car porn with the words “ACTUAL in game footage, can you believe it!? We swear we’re not making this up!” at the bottom of the screen.

  5. Shame Vettels name is on it, really puts me off. Would”ve preferred webber.

    • Also I thought it had a CVT, why is it changing gear?

      • I thought a CVT still had gears, it just hit them at optimal rev ranges. I’m probably wrong though…

      • meant to go to optimum revs and stay there, like this :

      • It doesn’t sound like a turbine either…

      • I’m sure thats just a place holder. It sounds EXACTLY the same as the Ferrari F1 car in prologue so I expect it to be different by release. Apart from the actual replay of the Nurburg lap it does sound like a turbine. Or at least it did to me

      • Surely if it sounds exactly the same as the F2007 from prologue it can’t sound the same as a turbine. Unless you’re saying the F2007 in prologue did sound like a turbine?

I hope you’re right about the place holder, but it’s getting a bit too late for everything to be “oh it’s not final build” etc. like I read on GTplanet all the time.

      • Just re-read what you said, nevermind ;)

      • They bloody changed it

Type: V6 Twin Turbo (Direct Injection)
        Engine Displacement: 3000cc

no mention of the box. Boring! I preferred the idea of the turbine + cvt. It was a bit unrealistic and out there, but that’s what made it interesting.

      • Boring!? I cast your mind back to the 80′s sir, where F1 cars were running 1.5litre engines with twin turbo at 1400bhp!! The idea of a turbine was brilliant agreed, but the performance of this thing will be far from boring

      • Yeah they were exciting because there was nowhere near the downforce levels, so nowhere near the grip, and they were unreliable.

Perhaps boring was the wrong word, too conventional would perhaps be better.

  6. Ohhh, that looks pretty awesome, looks simply stunning visually.
The last time I went round the Nurburgring GP course (May 2010)
was in an BMW M5, I was the passenger and for sure, it was a white
knuckle ride (felt pretty sick too). This looks much more fun and
much less likely to result in an embarassing projectile ending.

  7. That’s a ridiculous car, can’t wait to at least try and get it. If polyphony digital would let me do that anyway…

    • oh, I’m sure polyphony will let you go on it as soon as it’s released. I’m sure it’ll be one of the cars you start with alongside the Fiat 500 and Volvo sports hatch.

I doubt they’ll have it as the car you earn at the apex of your career when you’ve spent 100+ hours of blood, sweat and tears and your other half has started divorce proceedings and therefore 95% of gamers never get to race it….. ;)

      I jest of course.

  8. What a useless car. It looks like there’s nowhere to put my weekly food shopping. Is there space for a child seat for my son in there? No! The car’s rubbish!

    • Stop hating on GT5 you Xbox fanboy!

      • sorry forgot the sarcastic smiley….

        ;)

there we go, all better now.

    • Agreed. How is one supposed to go dogging in that?

  9. Damn you TSA! You just made me add another game to my “to buy” list and I hadn’t cared about this until now… Plus I’ll need (want) the wheel..

    • Need/want are the same thing aren’t they?

I told the other half i need to convert the garage into a games room and I’d need a HD projector.

In this instance I fail to differentiate need and want!
