MAG DLC Coming

Please stand clear of the sides.

Oh, what’s that word. The word for those steps you get in shopping centres, tube stations and airports. You know, the ones that move for you. I call them “Lazy-Steps” myself.

Anyway, on with the news. MAG, or Massive Action Game if you’re a fan of underused “backronyms”, is a gift that just keeps on giving. SCEE and Zipper are clearly not content with shipping a game, keeping the servers from exploding and watching people shoot each other. Oh no, they want to give you more. The recently released (in September, I’m told) MAG 2.0 patch has paved the way for this DLC which is coming on November 3rd for the bargain price/extortionate rip-off of €7.99/£6.29 (delete as appropriate).

The DLC includes a separate game mode pitting each of the three factions against each other at the same time in an up-to 96-man battle for supremacy. The aim is to win the required number of points before the timer expires or to have the most points as a team when the clock ticks down.

The game is set up in two phases, the first being a challenge to seize and hold three objectives. When any one team holds two of the objectives the second phase will begin and those original three will be locked down and a fourth objective opened. Whichever team won the first phase by securing two of the three objectives must now defend this, fourth point, against both of the other teams. There are also three entirely different environments for this new mode and nine new weapons:

  • Raven: Gotha Elite (Assault Rifle) | KP21 (Machine Gun) | Kinmark SRS (Sniper Rifle)
  • SVER: Tamsen MK2 (Assault Rifle | Ariet SFW (Machine Gun) | Rubakho SVR (Sniper Rifle)
  • Valor: M31 CIR (Assault Rifle) | M245 (Machine Gun) | Sentinel M421 (Sniper Rifle)

Sounds like plenty of new stuff for MAG fans to smash through and shoot at. But what name have they chosen for this new content? The Lazy-Steps Expansion!

Oops, sorry, I mean the Escalation Expansion.

im glad i played the beta now. i was looking forward to getting this because it was all 3 factions at the same time but when i played the beta i just didnt like it. too many things where going on at the same time and the objectives are ALWAYS changing so your always in the wrong place at the wrong time (unless your lucky). also i cant physically get it anyway, my PS3 went to sleep and never woke up…

All a very nice sum up, but anyone that’s been paying any attention to MAG already knew most of this.

This is actually the game mode which was made available to everyone to play for free within the MAG Public Beta thingy which came around in August for the 2.0 patch.

Good fun, though it was, I have no real intention of buying this mode. The previous DLC was pretty nifty, but completely mishandled in game with the fairly awful match queueing system. It might be better now, but player counts won’t be high enough to keep it populated, or worth my time.

So, sorry Zipper, maybe next time…

Too little, too late! The interdiction DLC went down like a ton of lead! Hardly anyone plays it & you sit waiting for a game. Since v2.0 broke domination, most play sabotage & acquisition now. I still play regularly with mates but numbers are dwindling sadly.

If they’d just prevented the vehicles getting within 100 yards or so of the objectives using roadblocks or dragonsteeth etc Interdiction would have been good. That would have allowed for proper offensive/defensive strategies. As it is it’s just a crazed game of cowboys and indians team deathmatch amongst the APC’s which serve as circled wagons. Far too messy to be fun for me.

My PS3 YLOD’d before v2 – what broke in domi out of interest? MAG is one of my fave games and a big factor in whether to replace yet or wait for a price drop so if it’s busted…..

In 2.0 you’d get kicked out of the game in domination, totally random too? Apparently the patch issued yesterday has fixed this but I don’t know yet! Trying it tonight
