One of the defining fighting titles on the PS2, fan-favourite Tekken Tag Tournament will get a long-awaited sequel in 2011.
It should be noted, however, that this particular return of Iron Fist smack-down is currently only confirmed for an Arcade release (and likely only Japanese arcades), though Namco Bandai’s Katsuhiro Harada has intimated that console versions are very much in his thoughts. Harada-san also announnced on Twitter that the console version of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 would ship sometime between Street Fighter X Tekken and its mirror-world Tekken X Street Fighter twin. As both of these games are expected on PS3 and Xbox 360 next year, his statement does suggest Tekken Tag Tournament 2 will be on consoles before the year is out.
The sequel will knit game-play elements found in later Tekken titles (like Tekken 6) into the familiar tag-team dynamic. Expect to see Bound hits (stunning airborne opponents into the ground), walled arenas and the ability to customise characters all featuring in the new battle royal.
Tekken Tag Tournament was a riot; a game that kept on giving, with chained combos, dazzling counters and other complex manoeurvres that requried a deft hand to get the most out of its intricate fighting engine. We’re looking forward to pairing up what will undoubtedly be a crazy cast, from polar bears to space ninja assassins, in the sequel next year. FIGHT!

Funny this should arise, since you were just professing your love for the original. You aren’t alone, I thought it was fantastic. I’ll take any excuse to fight as Jun. :)

Well, this article was written some time ago. When Dan asked me to add something to his PS2 article, however, I did recall this entry and hence picked TTT as one game I wanted to reminisce about.

I’m very glad you did! In fact, I think I’ll play it right now. :D

Personally I never got the same feel for the tekken games on the consoles as the good old arcade machine thingies, the crowd gathering behind me and the weird kid who smashed me to bits. Still fun though :)

That’s something online gaming just cant give .. crowd gathering behind . I think I am really lucky to have lived through the arcade to console history.Best of both worlds.
