Media Molecule has announced the LittleBigPlanet 2 Collectors Edition, which will arrive packaged in a SteelBook case and a transparent outer sleeve which slides off to leave you with the iconic zip from Sackboy.

As well as the game and the ten bonus Move co-op levels featured in the standard edition you will also get five PSN avatars and seven brand new Sackboy costumes:
The Collectors Edition will ‘be available in different ways across Europe’ – in other words it’s going to be exclusive to a certain retailer in each country. Those who pre-order can also pick up a bonus costume in the shape of Jak, Daxter, Ratchet or Clank.

No doubt the current Collector’s Edition will be cheaper than it would be with the extras. SCEE have said there will be a load of new LittleBigPlanet merchandise coming as well so if you really want some merchandise then go out and buy some. As I said, nothing is for free so if they add in merchandise you’ll only be paying extra for it.

They are alienating thir fan base in EU. Just make a proper CE for those who wants to pay and then make a steelbook edition for a few pounds extra.
Take a look at the comments at the EU blog, there isn’t one single post with positive feedback and I can’t remember a product announcement getting this much heat from the fans.
I hope somebody at Sony are crapping their pants and realize what a major mistake they have made.

After the first page of complaints that this really sucks when compared to the US version we get:
“The US CE is definitely great – but this European CE is not designed to be comparable in content or price to the US version.”
I quite honestly don’t care that the EU CE won’t cost as much as the US one (I’m hoping Shopto do it for just £2-3 more), I’m still massively hacked off that I’m a big enough sucker to be pre-ordering the US one just to get the physical collectors edition goodies, as well as the EU one to get the game itself and have DLC that’s compatible with what I already own.
Not happy, but I’m still a fool.

Frankly I’d rather have this than the US one – sometimes it’s nice to just get a lovely steelbook, a few extras for a few quid more rather than a expensive overblown one.

True, but then they could have called it Sackboy Limited Edition or something like that and still do a proper Collectors Edition for the fans.

That would be the ideal situation, true.

In the US the standard version is $60, the CE is $80. So £12 for a plushie, some awesome bookends and about £12 more.
I don’t care if they bring out this steelbook edition, in fact that’d likely get a whole ton of sales in and of itself, but I think it’s F-ing stupid not to do the Collector’s Edition that’s on parity with the US version.

There’s nothing really “collectible” in this when you compare it to the US one. I don’t understand why they can’t just offer us both the same product!

Judging by the extra content in this CE, it won’t cost that much more than the game itself. So I’ll definitely go for it!

Oh. Just googled “LBP2 US special edition”. Surely that looked awesome, I understand your complaints now. Oh well…

because it comes with ALL the costumes, and very happy looking Sackboy plushie and some incredibly awesome book ends… Google it and you’ll understand! :)
