Maybe you do not have enough Sony marketing in your life? Maybe you like home shopping channel-style productions because you have nothing better to do during the day or enjoy watching the presenters squirm when things go wrong?  Either way, Sony has got a new Internet video show you may like.

Launching this week over the on the US Sony Style website is the almost vowel-free SGNL by Sony.  Yes, it is supposed to be pronounced “signal” when spoken.  Sony tell us that the show will cover all aspects of their consumers products including music, movies, gadgets and most importantly for us, games.  This first week the show looks at Sony’s NEX-5 camera, Apple TV-rival the NetBox SMP-100 and their new PC gaming headphones.  So far so humdrum then.

What caught my interest though and made me think it might be worth sharing (beyond the chance to use a Serenity quote as a tagline) is that in their second show they will be talking to Jim Lee.  For those of you not into comics as much as our Kris, Jim Lee is Co-Publisher of DC Comics and has illustrated some of their lesser known franchises like Batman and Superman.

Why should we gamers care?  Well, his appearance on the show will be to talk about the still forthcoming super hero MMO DC Universe Online so there is a chance we might see more art and gameplay or even get a better idea of when it will be released.  The only problem is working out when the show will be posted.  Sony use the ambiguous term bi-weekly to describe how often new shows will be available.  I am guessing it will be fortnightly, not twice a week and we will know for certain by the end of this week.

  1. bi-weekly is a fortnight :)

    • Bi-annual means twice a year so a fortnight would technically be bi-monthly. This must be twice a week

    • Not to me, ‘Bi’ means two times so anything it is attched to means 2 times in that period ; bi-annual (2 times a year), Bi-monthly (2 times a month) and bi-weekly (2 times a week). Greg is right, it’s rather ambiguous.

  2. bi-annually is twice a year, so bi-weekly would be twice a week wouldn’t it?

i doubt it’ll be two new shows a week though.

  3. I have a NEX-5 and it’s anything but humdrum, it’s freaking great! Perhaps you should check the show out after all Watchful ;)

    • I simply meant humdrum from a gaming perspective. I watched the show purely for reasons of writing the article, not because I can always find room for more Sony gadgets. Honest. ;) I’d love a NEX-5 if I could afford one.

      • Point taken :) Ironically, I’ve used my NEX-5 on a tripod to capture PS3 gameplay (in 1080i) as well as make a few gaming related YouTube clips… so there’s your tie-in :).

Oh, and pretty sure there is or will be a firmware update for the NEX-5 that will allow 3D photography (of sorts), which presumably you can view with the new Photo app on the PS3. See, gaming everywhere!

      • Yes the firmware is out now and allows you to take 3D panoramas

  5. Cheers for the heads up on SGNL. It’s quite a nice show, though it can feel a little like watching the QVC channel at times.
