It doesn’t really seem to matter what Rockstar put out, it’s always eagerly anticipated and it always stands up to scrutiny. This first in-game trailer for the long-awaited PS3/Xbox360 title, L.A. Noire, is no exception.
You can say what you like about Rockstar, they know how to put a trailer together. Remember, this is entirely in-game footage. Check out that performance capture.

That looks really good.
So what’s the premise of the game then? I don’t really know much about it. Will you have to solve crimes, find clues, interrogate and such like?

that’s pretty much it. they spend alot of money on mo-cap. instead of rendereing the characters they just videotaped them with special cameras and put the actual people directly into the game.
they want u to be able to tell if someone is lying…should be nice

Those are probably some of the best character models I have ever seen! Looking forward to this a lot.

Don’t know why, but the mouth/lip movement looks really good

I thought that, leaps ahead of other game engine cutscenes

The lip syncing and animation is stunning. Better than Uncharted 2 and that’s saying something. Wow, it’s so articulate and natural looking. After seeing the effort that goes into even half-decent mouth movement this is streets ahead of any game I’ve seen.
Wow (again).

thought the same thing, out of sync mouth/lip movement really bugs me

Good spot, the syncing is great.

Just watched it again looking for other little touches, and man, watch their necks while they talk (in HD). At 0:54ish in particular, you can really see his Adam’s Apple move as he talks.

wow, pretty impressed with that, looks like it won’t be just be another GTA III which has been peddled to us in various skins about 6 times now

Looks like the first Rockstar game I’ll buy in a very very long time… Since GTA2 I think!
Very impressed with how that looks, initial appearances would peg it at roughly Heavy Rain graphics, but then with somewhat better motion capture and facial expressions… Still firmly in the Uncanny Valley, but it’s a shuffle in the right direction. It’ll take the next gen of consoles to get us any further, really.
So, colour me impressed.

definitely nowhere near heavy rain graphics. Great, possibly better mocap/facial expressions in this, but overall graphically? no. Just for starters, universal dynamic lighting for the scenes weren’t present

Wow, looks fantastic. The facial expressions and character models were fantastic. That guy looked really afraid! I may buy it :).
