Anyone that’s lucky enough to have snared a copy of Gran Turismo 5 before its official release date of – yes – tomorrow, would have no doubt been slightly confused as to the lack of any semblance of an online mode and lots of error messages saying that whatever you’re trying to do can’t be done with ‘this version of the game’.
Well, that’s because the version on the disk doesn’t have an online portion at all, until now. This morning the much anticipated (at least amongst those of us trying to write up some kind of ‘review’) patch was released, which takes GT5 up to version 1.01 and adds lots of new features mainly revolving around the internet community.
So, when you get your game tomorrow look out for a more in your face install pop-up, the ability to trade car cards with friends, a comprehensive (and highly collectable) meta game in the form of the Museum and the option to create lobbies. Oh, and of course, the chance to take the racing simulation online rather than just battling the AI.
If you want to know what we think of Gran Turismo 5 be here tomorrow, at 8am…

My copy doesn’t seem to work?
Downloaded the patch, then installed the data, and it just sits on the GT5 intro screen for about 5 mins.
Then eventually it says a connection to the server could not be found, it asks me to choose a language and set the screen size, then it plays an intro video, but none of the buttons do anything to actually play the game?
WTF???

Here goes another 30mins for the patch and 40mins for the data.

I chose not to install at first and i was stuck on the GT5 screen for ages so i turned it off and I’m currently installing now (already downloaded patch) and its been on “Approx. 13 mins left” for donkeys :( hurry up. Has the patch Fu*cked the game up?

To people wondering about the long loading times at the start of the game (even if you don’t install), it’s because the game is trying to contact the online servers, after a few minutes it times out and states it couldn’t connect and you can then select to go past it.
Unfortunatly it tries to connect to the server after pretty much everything (exiting options, garage, dealerships etc) meaning you get long waits very ofter, the signing out of PSN stops this as it assuems you have no internet connection and just bypasses it.
Pretty good game so far, just wish they had put an option to disable the HUD in the in car view, however the head tracking works great (once you have it setup correctly).

I have downloaded the update, installed on to HDD
but it doesn’t seem to work if you log on to PSnetwork
it work fine if you don’t but then if you say yes at any point to connect it stops working
Surely they can’t be that petty to stop peoplle going online 1 day early
we have only waited 5 years
to race on tracks that were on GT1 & 2

So is online working cos i cannot connect to the servers at all! I’m currently offline and have been ever since it tries to bloody make contact with the server after everything you do! I’ll just wait until tomorrow before i get pissed off. Oh well my sweet ek9 type is lookin sexy and sounds awesome :)
