Looks like the calls for Firefly and Castle star Nathan Fillion to play the Uncharted series’ dashing hero Nathan Drake have fallen on deaf ears, as Mark Wahlberg (yes, that’s Max Payne) has confirmed in an interview with MTV News that he will be playing the role of Drake in the upcoming movie based on the games.
Wahlberg, who also appeared in The Other Guys and The Fighter, will play the role in a script written and directed by David O. Russell. “David is one of the best writer/directors I’ve ever worked with,” says Wahlberg in the interview. “The idea that he has is just insane. So hopefully we’ll be making that movie this summer.”
That “insane idea” doesn’t appear to be based on either of the games, however, with the actor also confirming that both Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci will also be appearing in the film adaptation, as Drake’s uncle and dad, respectively, neither of which have appeared thus far in the games.

I say that it almost shouldn’t be a big star like Hugh Jackman or now Mark Wahlberg… Ugh. It should be Joe Flannigan ( http://spacegypsies.com/media/2010/08/Joe-Flanigan.jpg ). Anyone who has actually seen an episode of Stargate: Atlantis (hopefully someone else can back me up :P) knows that he already plays a sharp witted character when he’s not yelling out orders. I think he’d be great, wouldn’t have the star power, but it would have my appeal… Which is all that counts. Right?

It’s clearly just me but I think Nathom Fillion is a bit of a gimp……
I just don’t think he’s right for the part, he’s more a TV actor, serenity was rubbish and tbh firefly wasn’t much better.

I think Wahlberg has developed quite nicely of late. He was very good in the remake of Infernal Affairs (The Departed) and despite the fact that his character didn’t even exist in the original he ended up being my favourite character. If he brings some of the attitude from that title to this then it may well work.
As it’s a film of a game though I won’t hold my breath, there’s not been a decent one yet and I can’t see that changing any time soon.

Wouldn’t have been my choice as Drake, would go for Fillion too, but I can maybe see Wahlberg in the role. But’s the script/story I’m most worried about, especially with the proposed addition of the ‘Father & Uncle’. I’m hoping Naughty Dog have an input somewhere otherwise, I have a bad feeling about this. May as well just call it Uncharted, as by the sounds of it, it’ll have no resemblance to Drake’s Fortune so why use the title.
Still, could be worse though, George Lucas could be writing and directing it, lol!
