Explodemon! Now Exploding in Q1 2011

Sat resolute in a smokey room, determined to order hundreds of games in some sort of scale of ever-increasing anticipation, our beady eyes poured over a lot of games. We talked big budget games, indie games, rebooted games, remade games. We even looked at games that had no chance of seeing a release in 2011. We rated them anyway. More on these future gems later.

We also mulled over games we were pretty sure would see a release before the end of the year on the off chance that, before the final list was tweaked, prodded and rigorously tested for viscosity and intense scrutiny, we could reshuffle accordingly. Just in case. Despite our best attempts, however, we knew some titles scheduled for Q4 2010 would slip into next year between the end of October (when the list was finalised) and the end of December.

One such title is upcoming PSN exclusive (first person to mention the cancelled Wii version gets defenestrated) Explodemon!, originally set for a December outing but now moving into the futuristic time-zone of Q1 2011. Just as an exercise in “What if?”, you may be interested to know that Explodemon! came in at #77 in our Walternate list. You know, before we dumped out mythical games like Grand Theft Auto 5 and Shenmue III.

We’ve been championing Explodemon’s retro style and combustible gameplay for sometime now. Inconsolable at the loss of playing with the little daredevil of detonation over Christmas, Curve sent over the following information to help explain just what happened.

Approaching a senior member of the company for an explanation behind the delay, a slightly
panicked man – who asked to not be named – spluttered “It was like that when I found it!” before running away, arms windmilling.

Attempts to retroactively correct this outburst to something more professional proved futile, but we understand it had something to do with ‘last-minute fixes’ and ‘remaining unflinchingly resolute in our desire to only release the most awesome game possible.’

In short: we’re sorry! But it’ll really be worth it. Promise.

We should have some hands-on impressions of Explodemon! before the year is out. If a certain someone gets their arse over to the studio as planned, that is. He knows who he is.
