Many people recoiled when it was revealed that Dead Space 2 would succumb to online multiplayer, fearful that any of the trademark atmosphere would be washed away in a flood of screaming idiots.  Apparently it was the most requested feature though, as Dead Space 2′s executive producer Steve Papoutsis confirmed:

“Multiplayer was the most requested feature for Dead Space 2. Numerous people wanted to be able to experience Dead Space with their friends after finishing the single player story. Given that feedback we wanted to deliver a game that our players would enjoy and listening to what they listed as the number one feature addition made sense.”

He also commented that not all horror games have to have the ‘team-based competitive survival’ theme for multiplayer, but it was a good fit for Dead Space 2.

We also find out that the game’s protagonist is driven by “creeping madness”; which is nice.  I had creeping madness once, but it turned out to be indigestion.

  1. That was my exact reaction, until I watched the trailer for the multi-player section.

It’s nice that players can play both the ‘good’ and the ‘bad’ side. Looks fun to be necromorph!

  4. I’ll get this for the single player anyways. Might as well try the multiplayer mode afterwards.

  6. Would have preffered an original style co-op then the multiplayer. Imagine the first dead space, but you are both characters on the ship together but in different parts? You can communicate with each other and help with tasks, but rarely meet together, but could get together for big boss battles?

    • That would be too good, I mean actually far too good. Hearing your mate screaming ‘help, help, need a little help’ as you look over the way and see his head being twisted off by a Necromorph….

Cool Beans Ahoy with DS2, Cool Beans indeedy

    • Yeah I’d rather some sort of campaign co-op than a full-blown multiplayer mode. But this sounds a lot more interesting than I thought it would be.

    • Correct – DS is the definite surviva horror. That sense of absolute dread and being so alone. No one is coming to save you, no wonder Isaac didnt have anything to say….
