It has been announced that the fantastic GT5 has sold over 5.5 million units worldwide – taking twelve days to do so.  The press release read as follows:

“As of December 6, more than 5.5 million units of Gran Turismo 5 have been sold worldwide. Gran Turismo 5 will further continue to contribute to the expansion of the PS3 platform.”

This revelation was part of a wider press release to celebrate the fact the Gran Turismo franchise has sold in excess of 60 million units. Amazingly GT5 Prologue has sold over 5 million units, and GT PSP has found a home with nearly 2.5 million of you.

  1. I bought GT PSP but im by no means a fan of it, i just disliked the lack of structure. Haven’t got GT5 yet, fiancee is getting me it for xmas cos I cannot think of anything lese to ask for and she is pissed off at me! lol

Also, nice little babe reference dan!

    • The racing in GT PSP was fine but the lack of ‘race series’ etc let it down.

  2. My old man (Turismo Veteran) is let down by 5, he doesn’t feel there is as much of an improvement in the gameplay as he expected.

I just hate them all, so I can’t judge ;-D

    • Thing is, Gt can’t do gameplay improvements, it has to play the same every time as it’s a simulator. If it played any differently, it would no longer be a sim.

      • Better AI would improve the gameplay.

      • Especially in the licence tests.
In the S licence I lost count of the number of times I got disqualified when the car you’ve just overtook rams into you.

  3. 5.5 million plus one! Unbelievable game, menus are a little irksome at times but once you get on the track it’s ace! Those are damn impressive sales. What was the last PS3 exclusive to sell that fast? U2? MGS4? Bonkers.

  4. So GT5 is already the best-selling PS3 exclusive ever, just 2 weeks after launch!? According to VGChartz, it sold 2,1 the first week, which means over 3 million in the second week…Wow. Hugely impressive I must say, and well deserved!

    • Especially considering all the sites that gave it bad “reviews” ie played it for five minutes and hadn’t got used to it yet.

  5. It will be interesting to see how it sold in each individual region. Though the US are mad for some GT5 action, apparently the series always sells best in Europe.

    • Over 3 million in Europe, a million and a bit in the US.

  6. These are indeed some impressive figures. To stop me from getting rid of it fairly soon they need to sort the online out. That’s what gets me to keep hold of a game once i’m done with sp, but at the moment there’s just no reason for me to play online.

    • What i’m saying is they need some levelling up, either your a spec career or a seperate online career. They also need to hand out credits to 1st, 2nd 3rd in online races. Leaderboards and online trophies and a record of your performance online wouldn’t go amiss either.

      • I guess the reason for no online XP is that theres too much potential for boosting (same reason you can only gift one car per day).. Doesn’t really bother me too much, I was impressed with the way online works anyway..

      • I like the online and am not too bothered by lack of ‘online xp’ but it would be nice to have unlockables. My pet peeve at the moment is that they have no leaderboards. GT5P was nice in that respect and we could more easily compare the office scores.

      • It has been announced that updates are coming with online xp and money and also leaderboards.

  8. Loving the babe reference, but for what, 6 years development? I’d expect slightly higher. Although considering its PS3 exclusive it is very impressive.
