In the market for a hideously overpriced gaming peripheral? Then you’ve come to the right place, as Sony has revealed the second officially licensed Gran Turismo 5 wheel, the Thrustmaster T500 RS – and its £449.99 price tag.

“The goal that I set for the Thrustmaster team was to design for me the most precise wheel ever developed, without any latency – to accurately reproduce the sensations of GT5, and let users truly feel the emotions experienced by drivers on real racing circuits,” says Gran Turismo head honcho Kazunori Yamauchi.

The post on the PlayStation Blog highlights the wheel and pedal kit’s “rugged, almost all-metal design”, “precision engineered steering, acceleration and braking inputs”, and the £449.99 cost of the whole thing. Oh wait, did I already mention that?

For what it’s worth, this is probably the definitive racing wheel you could be playing GT5 with, but at £449.99 (oh, I said it again), only the most die-hard enthusiasts are going to be buying a fake steering wheel for more than it costs to get a used car. Should you want one, it’s out now. For £449.99.

  1. That is a truly ridiculous price for an accessory…

    • i wish i had this instead of my gt wheel

    • That price doesn’t even include the H-Pattern shifter due to be released later for it!

  2. It is a lot of money yes, but one of the similar racing site’s has one at the moment and compared the build quality and technology to that of frex wheels which cost over one thousand pounds. Obviously this wheel is not for everyone, this is why there are two official wheels.

    • Ye this may be expensive but its still quite cheap compared to the prices a lot of PC sim racer’s will pay for the frex wheels.

  3. Or… you can buy a 3 Series: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201051375867167 And get a true driving experience!

    • Having driven one of those, GT5 offers a far more enjoyable experience!

    • Or you could pay for quite a while driving around a real track.

    • or you could buy a car for a even more real experience at that price.

  6. I want a wheel badly for GT5, but this i just plain silly. I even think the G27 is to expensive, so was thinking about picking up the Thrustmaster Ferrari GT Experience Racing Wheel, which is dirt cheap and gets decent reviews.

    • If you can afford it I would go with the Logitech driving force gt instead.

      • I can, I shouldn’t though :P

        But noted down, thanks :)

      • Agreed, the Driving Force is superb, and doesn’t cost twice the price of a PS3.

  10. Wow. I have a wheel, but if i had the money i’d be buying this one. Awesome. But i think to get the most out of it you’d have to go the whole hog and get a racing seat too.
