GT5 Save Data Cracked Open

Flood gates = open.

It seems the flood gates are most definitely open, as reports are coming in that a PS3 owner has managed to successfully copy over, crack open, and modify someone else’s almost complete GT5 save game to run on his own PSN profile.

This has apparently given access to “loads of trophies, loads of cars, and loads of money” – which he can use online – whilst also arguably negating the whole point of owning GT5.

Sadly, it’s safe to assume this is the start of many more game saves being bust wide open.

  1. Rubbish, just absolute rubbish.

There is nothing good about owning a trophy you never earned. What is the actual point?

    • Agreed, it’s only virtual. If you didn’t earn it, it’s entirely meaningless!

      • Its entirely meaningless if you did earn them! I still don’t fully see the point in trophies/achievements. Also, hacking a game to get points and prizes is a farce, why buy the game to start with?

      • that’s your opinion bajere but many people do like them.

    • i think the term is epeen stroking.

    • i personally wouldn’t use it i want to get trophies the right way and feel some sort of accomplishment.

  2. TSA is going into overdrive today on stories linked to hacking on PS3.

  3. I don’t really know enough to know how this could have happened – Is this anything to do with the recent jailbreak news, or some other method?

    • Once the machine is compromised up its contents (files) are open to examination and unfortunately alteration.

One alteration possible is that all games have a check box within their PS3 file structure which enables Remote Play to a PSP (or the Open Remote Play PC hack) Making ALL PSP games remote playable

      • They had the same problem with GT5 Prologue where you could download and use someone elses save. But they negated that by the fact that you can only copy a save from a ps3 and upload is back onto a ps3 in the backup utility, which requires your hdd to be blank.

  4. Cloud saves that are never stored on the local console – would prevent tampering & provide an advantage to users too. Although as a downside could cause problems if your net is unreliable

    • …or even worse if you use your PS3 entirely off-line.

    • but they have to downloadable at some point right?
unless you’re going to have the whole game run through the cloud like onlive the game on your machine is going to need the data at some point, they could intercept that data and copy it, there is no 100% secure system except one that nobody can use.

shockingly sony may have taken that literally.

  5. I don’t really like using other people’s saves, even for unlockables I will never get. I would much rather do something myself.

    • Same here, I always play through a game as it’s meant to be played. You don’t get the satisfaction that you get when you achieve a trophy etc. if you cheat.

  6. What is the point of playing a game on someone elses savefile. If you already have everything unlocked for the game, why should you be playing it after that? I know this is not applying GT5 but a whole heap of other games that are around

  7. Did this only happen when they allowed the game save to be backed up?

Also there are a few games you could do this with already e.g. PURE.

  8. There’s details and threads about it on GTPlanet at the moment. I don’t know yet whether you have to have a hacked PS3 to use the game save or if it can be used on a un-hacked PS3?

  9. isnt GT5 copy protected? If it is then may use the method (not to hack it) so i can have a back up cop of my save. wonder if it would work with other protected saves?

    • GT5 was copy protected, then Polyphony alowed it to be copied, but it could only be used by the account that created it. Now though this hack enables the games save to be used on any account!

      • Damn you *shakes fist*

      • I’m wondering dude if I copy my save and send it to my friend will he he be able to play my file on my account but on his ps3 cause he was going to help me gold licenses and specials any replies appreciated to the subject

    • In a recent update, Polyphony Digital removed the copy protection. Basically it means you can back it up onto memory stick or whatever. The clincher is it’s linked to your profile/PS3 or whatever. This story is saying someone has unlocked that and he’s managed to put it onto a different account.

      • cheers gents, didnt realise that the protection has been removed, dont have to worry about it now. Not that ive sunk that much time into it.

  10. and so ends the point to getting trophies….

    • There was never really a point in trophies in the first place (bar. Bragging rights).
I feel that they ruin games, rather than make them.
You’ll find that the older games without trophy support are barely played.
However, those of which that support it still sell (Terminator Salvation, – Trophy whores game, much?).

      • Trophies should, if you have any sense, force you to try harder to up your game, find that secret, get your monies worth. In this throw away culture its to easy just to give up and go onto the next game, trophies are your friend.

      • I find trophies make games more disposable for me. Once I have platinumed something (or got as far as I think I can reasonably get towards platinuming it) I will get rid of it and move on. Trophies cause me nothing but stress, gaming was much simpler without them, when you could do and much or as little with a game as you wanted, without these virtual rewards hanging over your head. And it drives me mad when people refuse to buy old classics just because they don’t have trophies!

      • I’d have to disagree, philbert. A good game should prompt you to get your money’s worth. Inventive and creative trophies are the only ones I have respect for. The rest can die by the roadside like a flattened cat.
