We’ve just gotten word from Major Nelson himself that an Xbox 360 dashboard update is on the way. This will not be the update that adds Hulu Plus and Kinect compatibility with Netflix, but instead it re-adds the ability to boot straight to the disc when you power on your console. Also coming soon is an update for Xbox.com that changes the appearance of the official Xbox gamercards. It’s nothing special but it does give them a sleeker tone and gets rid of the ‘gamer zone’ bit.
The dashboard update will be going live today with the website update coming tomorrow. Below is a preview of the new gamercards.

Really don’t like the new gamercards, they’re ugly, sorry.

I was surprised to see that they ditched green altogether.

The new gamercards look truly awful and very, umm, grey.

So the inability to boot straight to disk was indeed missing. I kept fiddling with the settings in the hopes of bringing it back to work.
My sanity is restored.

Yeuch. Looks horrible and is even worse than the PS3 gamercard on PSN.

Wow, that is one ugly gamer card. Hopefully the color and such are customizable.
