We’ve just gotten word via CVG that the PS3 version of Mass Effect 2 is causing corrupt save files for some unfortunate gamers. We’re not yet sure how widespread this problem is but there are a fair amount of people over on the official BioWare forums that are having the same issue. Some gamers are saying that it has corrupted every Mass Effect 2 file they have, so using several different save files apparently isn’t a usable work-around.
Mass Effect 2 Producer, Jesse Houston, has come in to the forums and acknowledged the issue by trying to isolate where the root of the problem is. Specifically, he’s been asking gamers the following questions:
Specifically if you can say:
1> where the crash occurred that caused the save to become corrupt (ie loading from Horrizon to the Normandy or Right after the fight with the Yahg)
2> How many levels in a row you played beforehand (Ie you played through the prologue through to Horizon in a single sitting)
3> How long you were playing concurrently beforehand (ie you had the game running for 40 hours straight without rebooting the console)
If you’re having the same issues, you may want to head over to the forums and see if you can lend any new information that helps them get to the bottom of it.
Update: the guys on the PS Forums might have found a way to limit the risk. Thanks to @Richard4481 and @Lysander__ on twitter for pointing that out to us!

I’m glad I haven’t encountered this problem yet. I’d be pretty pissed if I lost my save after putting over 35 hours into the game so far.

Doesn’t work. Some sort of link between the save and the profile prevents the backed up save from working when it is copied back.
I’ve lost two profiles through the bug. Managed one complete playthrough and lost the next 2 attempts at new playthroughs which amounted to around 16 hours worth. Luckily haven’t lost my original 40+ hour playthrough data.

There always seems to be this problem with some games, it’s a shame too because it destroys your enjoyment. If you have put 20+ hours into a game the chances are if the save corrupts your not gonna be so keen to do it all again!

I may stay away for a couple of weeks then, at least until we know how to avoid it…

had my first stint on it last night, but 6 hours or so in to it. it’ll be ever so slightly annoying if I lose that!

Something of a disaster considering what a high profile game it is.
This would make me a very unhappy bunny. I hope it’s fixed by the time I pick it up.

Has anyone else noticed that some of the cut scenes are out of sync?
