Get your cars checked over, it’s time for a GT5 mini-championship! I’ll be the first to admit that our stewardship of the Fifth Grand Tour has been a little lacking, but we’re trying to make amends. We had the Time Trial, and the Picture Quiz, and now we have a test run for a potential Championship in the coming weeks and months.

I’m sure you’re all wondering what I mean by it being a test run. Well, I’m hijacking the 6-8PM timeslot on Sunday 6th of Feb. Where the GT5 meet has lived for the last few weeks, and we’re going to have some competitive races within that time period. There’s no big prize for this, but I will be offering the credits I earn from the coming week’s Seasonal Events to be spent on up to 3 cars of the champion’s choice.

Before I get on with further details, JamboGT is also running a test of a GT5 championship. (You should have seen my face) It will be this in the evening of Thursday, 3rd of Feb. He’s using SuperGT cars, and all the details can be found here. If you’d like to see a full sized GT5 competition, make sure you do your best to attend one or both of these, so that we can get an idea of how many people are still interested. Not to mention give both possible formats a good shakedown run.

Now back to my competition and me. There will be five races, each lasting roughly 15 minutes, with a 5 minute qualifying period beforehand. Not particularly long races, but I’m deliberately aiming to get this compacted down for a single evening. I’ve picked these tracks deliberately, but I’m open to requests.

The five tracks are:

Cape Ring Periphery – 10 laps
Laguna Seca – 10 laps
Special Stage Route 5 – 10 laps
Nurburgring GP/F – 7 laps
Circuit de La Sarthe – 3 laps

The cars are where my juggling act hinges, and I value your input in the comments. In particular, let me know if you’d like an equivalent car to be tested by me for the list. The rules are for no tuning outside of Transmission and Suspension, and everyone must use Racing Soft tyres.  When you purchase or decide upon your car, please ensure that you don’t adjust the weight, or install any engine modifications, as you cannot turn those adjustments off. You will also be allowed to pick and choose cars for each track. Of course, I’ll be relying on your honesty, but you look like a nice enough bunch.

The cars available are:

Mercedes Benz SLS AMG ’10 – 563 BHP – 1620 kg – FR
Ferrari 458 Italia ‘09 – 562 BHP – 1485 kg- MR
Ford GT ’06 – 550 BHP – 1451 kg – MR
Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 ’08 – 552 BHP – 1410 kg – 4WD
Audi R8 5.2 FSI Quattro ‘09 – 517 BHP – 1620 kg – 4WD
Ferrari 430 Scuderia ’07 – 502 BHP – 1350 kg – MR
Nissan GT-R SpecV ’09 – 478 BHP – 1680 kg – 4WD
Nissan GT-R ’07 -
473 BHP – 1740 kg – 4WD

Now, I know they’re not all made quite equal, but I’m satisfied that they were close enough in times when I tested them. For this I used Cape Ring Periphery and Laguna Seca without using adjustable tweaking transmission or suspension, but with Racing Softs on every car. It’s down to you whether you want the handling and grip of the GTR SpecV through the corners, or the sheer horsiness from the top of the list. Whether you spend your effort testing out a single all purpose car, or tailor your choice to each track. If you have any further suggestions along these lines, speak up!

Regulations will be set to:

Normal races; Grid starts; Fastest first grid; Weak contact penalties; Light mechanical damage; Racing soft tyres; No skid recovery force; No active stearing. ASM and ABS are enabled.
As I’ve already said, the only modifications allowed to be active on a car will be Fully Adjustable Transmission; Fully Adjustable Suspension and Racing Soft tyres.
The points system will be that of the old F1 system, so from 1st to 8th you have 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1 points awarded respectively.

How to join in the fun:

How you enter is dead simple. This is a glorified meet, so it will be run as such. Stick your name down on the correct meet, which can be found here along with Jambo’s.  Please only sign up if you know you can make it for the duration, so I have a real idea of numbers. If there are spaces, then people should feel free to drop in and out after we’ve got underway.

Last, slightly important point. When it comes to the actual meet, my own net connection isn’t that wonderful. However, JamboGT is kindly helping out and will be the party host, so add him and come Sunday, join his lounge, not mine.

If you’re still awake after reading all that, and plan on joining the fun and frolics, I’ll see you then!

Don’t forget to make good use of the Community, Competitions and Meets sections of the site, as well as following @thesixthaxis and @TSACom on twitter for even more TSA. There’s also that swanky new “Pinned Posts” feature, so you should never forget about a competition ever again!

      • The more GT5 champs the better I say! Thursday should be a hoot. Some serious competition has signed up already and me being a total noob at setting up a car means I will be relying on my (lack of) driving talent even more!
