I must say that the reaction to the Gran Turismo 5 Championship has been absolutely fantastic. A month ago, we were slightly skeptical that 16, let alone 32 people would still actually be playing GT5. Hence the scramble to organise a second lobby on Mondays, just a few hours after entries opened!
We’re starting this coming weekend, with the first race just three days away, so who made it in? Well, we hit exactly 32 entries, which made my life nice and easy, so I didn’t have to apologise to anyone for their exclusion from the competition. So, lets go and…
The 16 racers for Sundays at 6:30PM are:
The 16 racers for Mondays at 6:30PM are:
I’ve emailed all of you to explain which day you’ll be racing on, and how the hosting works. Basically, though, you’ll need to befriend your corresponding Race Marshal and Lounge Host, and enter the lounge between 6:30PM and 6:45PM via their Community Profile’s cup or yellow dot. Either should work fine.
For this first week, we will be trying to open the lounges early, at 6PM, and I’d ask that as many as possible turn up early for a few races to stress test of the network with a full or nearly full lobby.
Also, beware, there is a new GT5 patch that will arriving tomorrow, Friday 18th. As usual, it will be fairly large, so make sure to apply it before the first race. If you’re late, we won’t be able to wait.
Enough of that, you want to know about the prizes, right? After some discussions with TSA’s benevolent dictator, going back and forth between £8,000 F1 car wings and TSA branded cupcakes, we came to an agreement. As I outlined in the reminder post on Tuesday, the overall champion and the two runners up will receive prizes, in addition to two racers who are voted for by their own competitors. In all cases, they will get a Cup. Literally.*
We’re going to have some customised cups printed specially for this competition using a few cool pictures from the championship races or Photo Mode, along with some lovely TSA branding, and what the cup is being awarded for. What better way to toast your successes than having a nice hot beverage and settling down to what your B-Spec driver hopelessly shunt into another competitor?
That’s it for the physical prizes. On the TSA points front, everyone will earn the total sum of their championship points, and 10 points per post-championship vote they receive. The top 6 racers overall will earn 500, 400, 300, 200, 100 and 50 points on top of this. Depending on the Seasonal Events, I may be able to squirrel away enough in-game Cr. to hand out some lovely Le Mans cars too.
There will probably be a few practice meets, spontaneous and organized, over the coming weeks, so get stuck in and practicing! If you’re new to TSA with this competition, we’re a friendly bunch, so just throw a few friend requests about if you wish to join in, and I have no doubt you’ll be made to feel welcome.
If you need to catch up on the rules, head back to the original post. The 2nd page has the explanation, the 3rd page the cars, allowed tuning and tracks. The 4th page has the entire, unadulterated rule book. It’s daunting, but not all that tricky. Oh, don’t forget to join in the chitter chatter in the forum thread.
If GT5 really isn’t your thing, be sure to check in over the next day or two, for something brand new and very exciting. We’re always coming up with new stuff, so keep checking in on the Community, Competitions and Meets sections of the site, as well as following @thesixthaxis and @TSACom on twitter for even more TSA.
*Sadly, for several reasons, we can’t award prizes to winners from outside the EU. I apologise the the few of you that are making the huge efforts from wildly differing time zones.

I see no really competition in either group, can’t wait to win that cup. I kid of course, thought I do have predictions on the winner/s but I guess you can never know what will happen on the day. I reckon I could win… if no one else turned up *cries*. But should still be some good fun.

I lied about the cupcakes, though whilst I was looking around, I did genuinely find a F1 front wing for £8,400.

Only if you discount FPS games with little 12 year olds slagging off your mum, nan and next door neighbour! :)
