A long, long time a ago in a time now too long ago from now, one small little team decided to reach for the big-time, a small form of world domination. That team wasn’t given a name, it was given a number, that number was (and still is) 78731. Obviously this post means we reached the top 500, and as I said previously those winners will be announced by the Oscar Mike Media podcast crew, so make sure you listen in. As a reminder, here’s what you’ve been folding for:

  • 1 very special Folding@home mouse mat designed by bunimomike, winner of our previous competition.
  • 1 of 3 sets of TSA stickers.

In other news, you may have noticed a drying up of Folding posts around this place, mainly because I’m shifting focus to my site, SonyFanatic, establishing more contacts and the like, and secondly because , well, let’s face it, who wants mostly useless statistics shoved in their face each month.

So here’s how things are going to change. I was planning on efectively stepping down as TSA’s Folding@home co-ordinator and let someone else collect stats and write the articles for me, but I figured, even though I’m a less active member of this community, I encouraged YOU all to get US to this Top 500 position, so why stop now, why not go further and higher.

However, no-one like reading loads of stats, and it takes a hell of a lot longer to collect them (I have to work through 300 FireFox tabs, one for each of you). Then once they’re in Excel they have to be manipulated into the data segments that you read, milestones, top members, graphs etc. All of this takes a LONG time, I’d say about 4+ hours. So what I’m going to do is cull all the unneccessary parts of the monthly updates, I don’t want to spend 4 hours sifting through 300 tabs and adapt statistics on Excel, I want to spend as little time as I can, collecting the VITAL stats, and posting them out to you.

I’ll take a look into making a PHP script so I can collect the data in about a minute, but for now it’s simple town, so I hope you enjoy.

Oh, and the more people that join the happier I’ll be, and the sooner we’ll overtake IGN, so join in, and spread the word TO EVERYONE!

So here’s what I’ve come up with…

  1. Awesome! So glad to see we cracked the top 500 :)

Fortunately I’m in the middle of my exams at the moment so have been able to let my PS3 fold more, explains why I’ve crept into the top 50 active folders – though I’ll be trying to creep up a little bit further if possible :)

  2. Jas-n – Thanks once again for all you do. Having had a glimpse into your data collection process (pretty scary even to a seasoned spreadsheet guy), I think this is the right move!

    Go TSA, Keep folding!

  4. If someone wants to explain to me EXACTLY how to going in with this I can probably contribute quite a lot. I’m a bit thick though so you’ll have to provide me with a step by step tony-proof guide.

  7. I used to fold for IGN, but not again. I like the community on TSA and i like the folding articles. Perhaps there could be a permanent link on TSA for Jas-n’s website for folders.

  8. Well Jas-n, we still get the main info, teams to overtake and top contributors so I think this is quite a healthy balance :)
I haven’t contributed as much, since I now only fold around 7hours per day, but I’m so glad we broke into the top 500 :)
