‘Beyond Good & Evil 2’ Is Now Next Gen

Beyond Good & Evil 2 was announced in a trailer in 2008 and had been in development for a year and a half, three years later we are no closer to the game.

Ubisoft’s Michel Ancel spoke to GamesIndustry.biz last night and confirmed that the game is still in development, but there is a catch.

“It is still alive and we are very far [into] development so we can’t go back now,” he said. “We are targeting the next generation of consoles.”

That’s ‘next generation’ consoles as in Xbox 720 and PS4 (or whatever you want to call them).

Ancel and team have decided to concentrate on ‘Rayman Origins’ and are busy creating a new engine for the title.

    seriously, does this not remind anybody else of what happened to that other title?

    it’s a damn shame because the first game was fantastic, and the video that might or might not have been from the sequel looked pretty damn amazing.

  3. So basically saying ‘no we’re not gonna do that game we know you’re all dying four yet, even through it’s probably nearly done, we’re gonna focus on a game for 9 year olds’.’

    • and don’t forget the assassin’s creed games they’ll churn out annually in the meantime.

    • Rayman looks amazing, I thought that was the best of the very FPS/shooter dominated E3.

      • Rayman looked fun :) Hopefully its an XBL/PSN title, as I can imagine my wife and I picking it up providing it has a £10 price tag.

  4. Project Cafe launch title, Im calling it! ;op

    • I think the new xbox & PS4 are closer then people think not long after the Wii 2.

      • Sony won’t announce a ps3 until at least a year before it launches so it’s unlikely we’ll see that until 2013 at the earliest. The “next Wii” isn’t even due out until then end of next year. I can’t see this game making it out this side of the next world cup.

  7. As the new Ninty is (according to rumours) only slightly more powerful than an Xbox and about on par with a PS3 I dont think you wil be seeing the game on Project Cafe either. Proj Cafe is still ‘this gen’.

    • It’s pretty weird if you think about it. Is this the first time a console manufacturer has released 2 consoles in one generation?

      • TBH I’d hardly call Wii next (er, this) Gen -it’s not much better than a PS2.

  8. Wha-?..dropped in favour of Rayman? :(
    They must be really ambitious with what they want to achieve but it still seems a bit odd. After such a long development time hopefully it’ll remain multiplatform so they can profit from it.
