DiRT 3 Tilt-Shift Video

Tilt-shift cameras automatically make everything a whole load cooler, giving the impression – via a very narrow focal length – that everything’s minature.

Case in point, this video of Ken Block’s Gymkhana run at Battersea Power Station, released as a treat from Codemasters for his original video getting over half a million views.

Pretty cool, eh?  Now let’s see that in game as a replay mode, guys…

Our review of DiRT 3, which we awarded 8/10, is here.

  1. I’ve been saying ever since DiRT 2, why don’t we convert Battersea into a Rallycross track? Think of the tourists! :D

  2. Ahh, tilt-shift lens are immense.

  3. Is there going to be a WeView for Dirt 3? i’ve got something to say.. :)

  4. Cool video. One talented guy!!

  5. Tempted to pick up DiRT3 this week after exams have finished. Ken Block’s amazing at Gymkhana, but he’s definitely not as good when he’s rallying in WRC.

  6. I’ve really no idea how that works – terms like ‘narrow focal length’ mean nothing to me, I’m afraid – but the outcome was certainly impressive. Clever stuff, that.

  7. Love the way he walks off at the end like he’s crapped himself. :)

  8. I bet there are days when he just can’t be bothered with spinning the car round these courses. Days where he’s just so bored of it all that he loafs around the house in his jimjams watching Jeremy Kyle (or American equivalent), eating ice cream and dreaming about being able to sleep for 48 hours non-stop. Days where he reflects upon life and thinks ‘If only I’d known then, what I know now…’ and then buries himself under the duvet.

I hope he has days like that… ’cause I’m dead jealous of him! ;-)

  9. fantastic camera work, this is stunning. being a hobby photographer myself, I can say that tilt shift looks great on stills, but I’ve never seen it work with video…but I’m glad I have, its excellent.

  10. @TSBonyman – Is it regarding the awful menus with triangles floating around all over the place lol?
