In North America Netflix is big business, with the film streaming service already on the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii and 3DS.

Variety is reporting that sources at a few leading European film distributors are saying that Netflix plans to expand into Spain and the UK in early 2012.

It would be an interesting move, especially in the UK where LOVEFiLM has already dug itself a nice little trench, and on-demand services from Sky et al are readily available.

  1. Europe (and I mean all of Europe) really needs streaming services as in the US…

    Please?

    • Europe really needs the EU wide rights bill they were supposed to be working on so companies don’t need to negotiate rights in every country. Until then, the smaller countries are screwed.

    • Ireland is still without a video store. As far as I know its the same for Holland, Poland and the Scandinavian countries.

      • Yep, though we’re promised it “real soon.” Of course, they said the EXACT SAME THING in 2009*

        *not a typo.

    • And I’m sure there are a lot more countries still waiting on a video store.

  2. This would be fantastic news. It would give Lovefilm a push to improve their streaming service so it’s at least better quality (and preferably HD) and it might result in newer films appearing on the service. Or Netflix will offer all that and I’ll switch… Either way, I’ll get the service Lovefilm /should/ be.

    • It’s about time they give us some streaming services… But I want a mass improvement on Qriocity.
