The PlayStation Store is still dragging its heels a little. We put it down to the nice weather and the traditional summer slowdown in game releases. Don’t worry though, there are still a few temptations that are worth your attention on this Store update day!

This is probably your best bet for a new PS3 download today.
On top of the PlayStation Plus content refresh which we already covered, there is a digital release for Dragon Age: Origins which is surprisingly not insanely overpriced. There’s also the return of 3D Ultra Minigolf Adventures 2 and the DLC for that.

Section 8: Prejudice has also arrived and there’s a demo for Rugby World Cup 2011. That’s the 505 Games one, not the Jonah Lomu one. Other than that, and episode 5 of Back to the Future, it’s a fairly subdued week.

Of course, there’s the usual eruption of add-on DLC, track packs and some sale content to keep an eye on.

  1. Odd. When the Xbox is pushing out stuff like From Dust, Bastion and ITSP, PS3 gets a mini golf game.

    • I still have no idea how to navigate the XBox store and I’ve had mine now for 3 months…

      • Really? I find it easier than the PSN.

      • I find myself agreeing with you, although neither store is perfect

      • Yeah I struggle to know what’s new and what’s been on there for a long time. Plus, I hate the idea of MS points. Maybe it’d help if I knew what was getting updated each week…

Anyone got a link for me? ;)

      • The store I miss the most is Woolworths… :(

      • I’m with you on Woolies. Best pick n mix evar, and £1 toys galore.

      • I don’t miss Woolies

    • We do get PS1 games though… Doesn’t that make up for it? Soul Reaver > Most XBL releases.

      • Is it?

      • From my experience:
Soul Reaver > Most releases, back in 1999

        Today:
Soul Reaver = Dated and horrible :D

      • I think it’s pretty great. Sony have released a huge number of PS1 titles on the PS Store, and they’re continuing to produce HD remakes and ports of PS2 games now. It’s a great service, and they’re well priced.
We do also get some great exclusives through PSN, like the various releases from thatgamecompany and games such as Dead Nation. We do have some pretty major PSN titles coming out before long, too.

      • Soul Reaver was certainly one of my favourite PS1 games, but it hasn’t aged as well as other games from the era

      • Great PSN store update IMO…

Free’s me up to choose between ‘from dust’ and ‘super twisty spaceship thing’ :)

      • all the PS1 games are terrible to play and look at but I still download them when they are free, I am a sucker for free stuff.

      • OH MY GOD….you who hath claimed Soul Reaver to be outdated & horrible should be thy ashamed.

The graphics are still great for a Playstation game and the gameplay is excellent.

You made me cry *cries in the corner

Serious: Guess it differs with screen size then? the graphics didn’t really put me off

      • Play the PS1 Classics on PSP- they will look far better than on a HDTV, believe me.

    • that is ok nofi we got over 17 exclusives this year:)

    • Exactly
Live has released a clutch of games that PS3 fans would die for

Summer slowdown is a self-fulfilling prophecy on Playstation, where Xbox’s summer of Live tackles the issue head on and release a whole host of top notch games every year.

Just trying to think what we’ve got this year and I’m scratching my head after the sublime Journey, a DLC sale just doesn’t compare to MS’s heavyweights

      • Yup, Microsoft won the download battle this year, as they have every year I think.
The on-disc line-up from PS3 blows the 360′s line-up out of the water though.

  2. Some good stuff there… Very tempted by the reduced Soldner-X bundle. Is the EA Summer of Speed still going as well?

  3. Only my opinion but the PSN release has been pretty poor for the last few weeks.

Just the WWE All Stars content for me this week, but it’s more than there was last week.

  4. Wasn’t a load of this stuff from last week, like S8: Prejudice and the Dynasty Warriors 7 DLC?

Not really been anything for me for the past couple of weeks

  5. Nothing. Pretty much the only thing I’ve got in MONTHS has been the LA Noire DLC and Limbo. Rubbish.

  6. Oooo, 4.80 for the original TR is bloody tempting :D
Brotherhood isn’t too bad in terms of pricing either given its about 20quid for the disk version.
I’ll behave and probably just get a new avatar this week. I have Motorstorm to platinum (damn collector cards!) and a Resistance beta to get addicted to next week :D

  7. I want the PoP Trilogy but at £15.99 it’s still waaaay too expensive when you can buy it brand new on Play.com for £12.99…

    • I haven’t played any of these PoP games so I’ve always found this trilogy set appealing but I’ve heard they aren’t fantastic ports so I keep putting it off

      • im quite happy with that price, PoP trilogy is quite hard to find these days instore, but the prices are slightly better online. DA:O is overpriced!

  8. Modnation racers is ridiculously expensive. Not the most exciting update imo.

    • I agree. Even with PS Plus discount it’s a little too much when you consider a disc version can be picked up cheaper.

      • Really?
Never seen it cheaper than €30 in Ireland.
Add in the PS+ discount and I’m really interested in getting this.

  9. Toy Story pack. Woohoo.

    • haha! same excitement here :D

  10. Dragon Age: Origins not insanely over-priced? You sure about that? Assuming we are talking about the first one, there’s no way it can be worth £23 is there?

    • Missed sec8 first time around, that’s my treat for the week. (i’m not prejudice:)

      • placed as reply by accident, my bad.

    • Remember that the prices are based on Europe’s mainland. Where I’m from (Norway) this is not a bad price. But it’s also the reason I buy online…

    • well if u look at the price they are selling the game for here in sweden (299kr) and then look what that will be in pounds… *calculating* that will be about £30… sooo its totally worth it if ur living in the UK…=)

      • get if online, save yourself about £10.

      • but the price i just said is the online price…
but the disc based game i could get at half the online price

      • lol worded badly, i meant buy the disk ver online.
