Bethesda: Rage On PS3 ‘Identical’

12Destructoid have contacted Bethesda regarding the ‘Blu-ray churning’ issue, as described by John Carmack from id Software at Quakecon. John had said,
Once you get everything from memory that works pretty good, but if you’re coming straight from the hard drive then the first time you walk into everything from the DVD or from the Blu-ray – even worse in terms of total latency time – you listen to that Blu-ray churning around as its pulling everything in.
Bethesda’s marketing chief, Pete Hines, has countered John’s comment by saying,
We had Rage running on PS3 in the press room [at QuakeCon] for folks to do their previews. We are very pleased with the PS3 version of RAGE. One of the cornerstones of the new idTech5 technology is that all assets are identical across all platforms. The experience that players have will be the same on all three platforms.
A cynic could point out that ‘assets’ could refer to sound files, models and textures which are obviously shared between all versions of the game and that ‘the experience’ means absolutely nothing at all and is just PR speak, and that Mr. Hines has just fed Destructoid some poetic prose.
However I’m in a good mood (not having your neighbourhood firebombed has that effect) so it’s a big hurrah from me, they’ve fixed the texture pop up in Rage!

Damn, i was looking forward to this but I hate that bluray churning noise you get with certain games, it annoyed me the whole way through LA Noire especially during much of the dialogue.

Actually the blu ray on my PS3 60GB is super quiet and never churns but the PS3 slim does.
Also the 360 DVD is louder.

Never heard the blu-ray on my fat 40GB PS3 because the cooling fan sounded like a jumbo taking off and used to switch itself on after about 10 minutes use!
My Xbox 360 120GB Elite (old style) makes a high pitched whining sound that makes people think they have ringing in their ears the whole time it is on and the DVD-Drive sounds like someone is using sandpaper on a wooden block.
My PS3 320GB slim on the other hand is completely silent no fan noise and the blu-ray hardly makes a noise.
Also, I have just purchased a gaming PC and specified that it had all the low noise options (like water cooling) and that, like the PS3 slim, is a joy to use.
