Sony To Cut PS3 Price Tonight?

66We saw retailers giving discounts earlier today but now we’re hearing more and more anecdotal evidence that a price cut is going to be announced at Sony’s conference this evening in Germany.
The figure looks like it will be around €239 for the 320GB model which we assume will drop to £199 in the UK. That could bring the 160GB model down to under €200 and possibly as low as £150, if retailers choose to squeeze it as much as possible.
With stacks of consoles being marked down already, the price cut announcement, if it comes, is likely to be one of those “effective immediately” things. We’ll keep you informed of anything official as we hear it.

Weird timing, I went in to buy a 320GB model this very morning but nowhere had them in stock… They were £269 with a game in most places, so I am very relieved I didn’t buy one!

maybe. but the extra sales of the ps3 would far out-way the any lost sales form the vita for Sony.

Can’t see that to be honest. Sony are making money from the PS3 now. They will have invested a fortune in the Vita and will need it to have a great launch and need it sell really well.

….ShopTo have had 320gb PS3s for under £240 for a while I think. I would defo buy a 160gb for under £200 as I can buy a 500gb HDD for £40! I want to get one before only the ‘K’ chassis ones are left – nice to have the Component cable option.

i expect there be a few around the 150 mark in the UK as the 160gb is already under £200 at most stores. i got mine for that price back in October.

In some ways, this is good news for any ps3 owner that has suffered ylod, especially if they’ve been unable to afford a replacement. Or for a 2nd unit come to think of it? :)
