8New screens have appeared of SEGA’s upcoming Aliens: Colonial Marines which looks like it could easily be the very best game anyone has ever made, ever. Ever.
Of course, we’re a bit biased, the film Aliens could easily be the very best film anyone has ever made, ever, too.
The screens appeared at very high resolutions so there’s some natural downsampling in them, and who knows how much they’ve been tweaked. Regardless, the game looks ace.

Aliens is not a patch on The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland, but this game could be great if a little bit pant-filling.

Since its about aliens and marines? as there as ever been a Starship troopers game? aliens is cool but StarShip Troopers is way better.
Also… watched a guy playing AvsP and it looked good, I guess this’ll be better but this as been long. Hope it turns out to be a great game and much better than AvsP since I knew that game was flawed.

Yes there was a Starship Troopers game way back on PC. It was a real hardware punisher at the time and shite as I remember.

Hahaha I’m not surprised by that.

Agreed:
Starship troopers = Funny & Awesome (only the first one though!)
Aliens = Serious & Awesome (pretty much up until AvP anyway!)
Both good, but i would watch them when i am in different moods. There have also been more good Aliens films than there have Starship Troopers films, so Aliens would win it for me overall.

I don’t get where they are, it can’t be Hadley’s Hope, as they nuked it in the film, and the Sulaco seemed to be in deep space and with no habitants in Alien 3, so where would the aliens breed from?
Have I missed something?

It’s set after Alien 3, apparently. Different marines to Aliens, and they’ve got The Sulaco, LV 426 and the Space Jockey ship in there.

If you check the “Related Stories” section above, you’ll see:

Discusses the concept of the new game.

Also, from http://www.thesixthaxis.com/2010/12/14/tsa%E2%80%99s-top-100-of-2011-%E2%80%93-26-aliens-colonial-marines/
“Colonial Marines takes one of the purest concepts of the Aliens universe – that of the marine squad – and throws the player into its collaborative mechanics. Dispatched to the Sulaco and LV-426 in search of Ripley (post Alien 3 timeline), the player controls one of four specialist marines at any one time. [...]
Gearbox are also not messing about, having enlisted the original concept artist on James Cameron’s Aliens, Syd Mead, to design the parts of the Sulaco and LV-426 we don’t see in the movie but are available to players in the game as they run around trying to save juicy colonists’ daughters. All the while doing their best not to have their own faces hugged off, of course.”

They caused the Atmosphere Processor on LV426 (where the nest was) to overload which was a distance from the Hadley’s Hope colony itself.
The Alien Queen (as killed in the hanger bay at the end of Aliens) had seemingly had time to lay/place eggs on the Sulaco (or on the dropship she hitched a lift on) before being killed as Ripley was impregnated by a facehugger while in her cryotube (see Alien³) as the Sulaco was returning.
So Hadley’s Hope could reasonably have survived and there could reasonably be Aliens on the Sulaco assuming they’ve found hosts from somewhere (salvagers?).
And there was the store of eggs (in stasis) on the Space Jockey’s ship still on the planet. Remember only one of those eggs was opened in Alien and while the colonists had recovered some more for study in Aliens, we did not see enough of them in that film to account for them all.
The Sulaco may well be in deep space but due to the emergency (fire seemingly caused by alien acid) which led to the ejection of the Medical Bay the ship may well have sent out an automated distress call.

cool, I see what you’re saying, I just don’t see enough salvagers or deep space farers encountering the Sulaco to populate a game with aliens. The queen had time to lay one or two eggs (weird anyway, since it detached itself from it’s egg sac, unless she keeps them up her sleeve) but it comes out from the dropship really quickly, not enough time to lay enough eggs to make a games’ worth of aliens.
You raise an interesting point that Hadley’s Hope was a ways away from the explosion, so there could be aliens left there, and there are of course 1000s of eggs in the Space Jockey’s ship (Prometheus!!!!!!!!!i am excite) but they require a colony of people for them to become aliens.
So my main point is that for an action game about aliens, you need a hell of a lot of people to lay your little baby chestbursters in, and I don’t think that could happen, reasonably.

AvP SP was great in my opinion I enjoyed and still play it over. It’s the Multiplayer that has put me off and makes the Meets worthless =’(

Agreed, sadly.
Last night was a bit of a joke when it came to matchmaking issues & all it would take to fix is an in-game invite system.
Shame.

Aliens can’t be the best movie ever, it’s not even the best in the series.
Alien beats it with pure tension.

I preferred Aliens to Alien. I love them all, even resurrection(sp?) but Aliens is a kick ass film.

I’m like them all, even as you say resurrection. They are both great but I think Aliens just tips it for me

I thought this was cancelled. It looks interesting plus i do like killing aliens. It hasn’t got time to bleed wait i think that is the wrong film series. I wonder if the facehuggers will attach to the players face and if player can’t get it off quickly then they will die? I will be annoyed if they have the face hugger jump up and only do a bit of damaged before trying it again.

or you blackout after getting the facehugger on you and wake up to find an alien smashing through your chest, that would be gory :D

rather awesomely in AvP2 you play a facehugger sneaking around trying to find someone to impregnate, then a chestburster where you chomp through their chest cavity, then service resumes as usual, as an adult alien.
i was really disappointed they didn’t have that in the current gen AvP
