Sonic CD Announced For PSN, XBLA, iOS, And More

Super.

Sega has officially announced that Sonic CD is getting a re-release. It’s not just coming to XBLA either. Sonic CD will also be available on the PSN, PC, Android, Windows Phone, and iOS for both the iPhone/iPod Touch and iPad.

According to Sega, the game will sport “enhanced widescreen graphics”, iOS exclusive features, and trophies/achievements. Perhaps the best news is that Sonic CD will have its original Japanese soundtrack.

The trailer is a bit perplexing. It shows Sonic, as he appeared in Episode 4, chasing after Robotnik as an image of Metal Sonic appears in the background. Then he goes into the past and we see Sonic CD footage. Could this be a sign of things to come for Sonic 4 Episode II? It seems rather deliberate, but who knows.

Sonic CD is scheduled to release this holiday season. It will be playable this weekend at the Microsoft Booth at PAX in Seattle.

Interesting theory, but I presume this is just a visual pun on the time travelling nature of Sonic CD, showing new Sonic going back in time for this re-release.

Yeah, this is still cool news :) I can’t believe it’s taken SEGA so long to realise that re-releasing the best 2D Sonic games is a better move than creating weaker 3D games that no-one wants lol.

It just seems like they keep re-releasing all the games, milking it as much as they can,

They re-release them because they can’t seem to make good new ones and need money. I’m happy about this as Sonic CD is one I’ve never played.

I’m very happy. I guess they are marketing this as a forerunner to Episode 2. Seems Sonice 4 Episode 2 is going to be a sequel to Sonic CD then……

Holiday season, for those of us who work and are in Europe, tends to be during the summer, when people go on holiday. Please don’t let this wonderfully British/European site fall in to casual use of American phrases.

Lol, I wasn’t aware that this would cause any confusion. It’s a phrase that’s used so often for gaming release dates too.

      It’s coming later this year.
