New Zelda Title Being Produced for 3DS

Eiji Aunoma has confirmed that a new Legend of Zelda title is in the works for 3DS.

Eiji Aunoma, series producer of Legend of Zelda, had an interview with the Portuguese site, MyGames, talking about the future of the series now that Skyward Sword is done.  Aunoma said:

“We are already preparing a new game, a game in the series for the Nintendo 3DS, but don’t think that it is a direct sequel to the Zelda titles released on DS.

We are talking about a new game, but it takes much of what has been done on previous handhelds.”

There has been some demand for a Majora’s Mask remake but this game won’t be it. It’s a completely new title. However, a Majora’s Mask remake isn’t out of the question with Aunoma adding:

“It’s something I’m asked about often and I assure you that it is something I’ve spoken to Miyamoto about. But recently we released The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D as a remake.

We are considering the idea, but it didn’t seem right to launch a remake one after another, so the next Zelda game on 3DS will be original.”

Alex gave Ocarina Of Time 3D a solid 10/10. Hopefully, the next Zelda 3DS outing will be just as good.

Meanwhile, Legend of Zelda: Skyward releases in 2 weeks on November 18th in Europe.

  1. Always liked the Zelda games, shame I don’t have a 3DS. Might have to borrow my mate’s on this occasion

  2. i never liked the control scheme of the previous ds zelda titles.

and “it didn’t seem right to launch a remake one after another”
mario, starfox and pilotwings don’t count then? o_O

  3. If they make a new 3D Zelda game instead of a top down portable, I would have no option but to buy a 3DS finally!

  4. Isn’t a new Zelda game on a Nintendo console a given?

  5. I am glad that they don’t plan on doing remake after remake as new games are what the 3DS needs.

I wonder if it will be a port of a Wii Zelda game?

  6. Would much prefer a Majora’s Mask remake. Or a Twilight Princess.
