GT5 Update and DLC Due Next Week

More great support.

Gran Turismo 5 is the driving simulation that just keeps on giving. Already, it’s almost unrecognisable from the game that was released just over a year ago thanks to the many improvements and additions. Now, we’re getting another free update as well as some very reasonably priced DLC.

Car Pack 2 might not be very imaginatively named but for $3.99 (or the local equivalent) it provides four new cars – the 2011 Mini Cooper S, 2010 Volkswagen Golf VI R, 2010 Volkswagen Scirocco R, and perhaps most excitingly, the 2012 Nissan GT-R Black edition R35.

That’s not all though, update 2.02 is also going to become available, introducing a raft of new features and fixing a few bugs. Here’s the feature list as posted on the US blog:

  • Users can now change wheels on Standard cars
  • The settings sheets will include a new ‘copy’ feature
  • In GT Auto, players will be able to see how the oil changes, aerodynamic parts, engine overhauls, and racing modifications will affect performance points and engine power, before and after their application
  • Free coupons have been added that allow you to wash cars, change oil, overhaul your engine, or refresh the car body in GT Auto (10 coupons will be distributed for free to each of those who have downloaded the 2.02 update)
  • Pressing the Square button in the car coupon selection screen of the Car Delivery will now allow you to exchange all car coupons at once, rather than doing one at a time
  • In screens where the [Garage] and [Driver List] buttons are displayed in the A/B Spec events, Special Events, and Seasonal Events, pressing the Square button will now show the [Garage], and pressing the Triangle button will bring up the drivers list
  • In My Lounge, the room settings will feature a new ‘Max. number of participants’ setting
  • In the event selection screen of seasonal events, there are now ☆(star) marks that show the number of Gold Trophies attained in each event
  • Improved racing sound effects
  • Elements of the steering assist controls (used when using certain controllers on Racing Karts) have been tweaked

Everyone who downloads 2.02 will also get a special Christmas gift of a Toyota FT-86 2012. In addition to this update, there will also be Family Upgrade packs for the previous Racing Car Pack, Course Pack or the bundled pack that contained both bits of DLC.

This Family Upgrade allows you to use the content from more than one user account on the same PS3. They’re also removing that restriction from those DLC packs, starting next week.

All in all, another great show of support for the PS3′s best racer.

Silly as it sounds with all the Skylines and GT-R’s, I’m looking forward to driving the 2012 black edition! :D Also looking forward to the GT 86 :)

Fair play to the guys behind these updates. It’s good to see they’re plugging away and adding bits in, other titles could really benefit from such love. Even better that the majority have been free too.

Always good to get new content for GT5. The features in the patch are good too. Hoping for some more tracks at some point though,

Thank goodness the second DLC pack contains some new premium cars. As much as I enjoy the TC Modified versions of the cars in the first DLC, they were all based on cars already in the game. I was thinking the other day how very few of the cars in GT5 are still current, so this is exactly what I wanted from DLC 2. Good stuff!

That Golf is also a bit of a stealthy beast. Turbocharged, 270bhp, 4 wheel drive, DSG, tasty!

All we need now is a bunch of recent turbo’d (or NA) hot hatches to have showdowns with :)

This is one game that I really could never get in to. I just wanted to start the game, jump into a rally car and drive without any requirement to sit a licence or start off with a low powered hatchback and work my up. Shame because I’m sure somewhere in there its a decent game.
