Major Nelson, aka Larry Hyrb, has admitted that there is a problem with video playback on the new Xbox 360 dashboard. Yesterday he tweeted the following message;
“We’re aware of the colorspace issue w/ some Xbox video apps & are working on a fix. No ETA yet but we hope to have an update soon.”
The problem was raised during the beta test phase of the Metro dashboard but wasn’t addressed.
Earlier this month it was discovered that although media from the Zune marketplace will play in 1080p, all other HD video is downgraded to 720p and ‘ignores any full-range RGB settings and reverts to a more limited 16-235 range.’

Sounds like they nerfed video playback just so people who wanted quality video had to use their service? Surely not.

If it was discovered during the beta test phase why wasn’t it fixed before release. A week or two delay would have been for me.

But not for the suits who wanted it on time. I’m sure there were many people who wanted to fix it, but were told to wait.
