Speaking at the recent DICE summit, Epic’s Mark Rein has confirmed that Unreal Engine 4 is already up and running on next generation consoles.
Picked up by GAF, Rein said that the engine, the last version of which was famously used to power Gears of War, is already functional on PC, and “systems [they] can’t name yet.”
The news won’t be too shocking to anyone, Epic (or at least, Unreal) are normally up there present and correct with new technology (see Infinity Blade) but if nothing else we can expect next-gen to feature even more bald space marines.
Is that still a meme?
In other, related and equally bitty news, Future published Xbox World Magazine says that the new Xbox will be a “matt-black media hub” with “four player finger-tracking Kinect” and – get this – a “tablet-like controller”.
I can’t wait for E3. The burgers are amazing.

I hope there are significant improvements rather than slapping a ’4′ on it to coincide with new consoles.

Tablets and….eh Motion Controls won’t do for me they’re quite old, even the Dualshock is old (just saying to make it fair) but it’ll be disappointing if theres no VR this decade.
The… endless possibites of Virtual Reality *drools

I thought the idea of VR died out in the 90′s!
Until today, i don’t think i have seen ‘V’ & ‘R’ together since Virtua Racer! XD

it died out because the technology couldn’t match the vision.
it didn’t looks good and it wasn’t very smooth.
these days even current gen machines could handle great looking smooth VR, any game that can be displayed in 3d should be able to be easily modified for vr.
and the next gen consoles should be even more capable.
i’d expect an increase in processing and rendering power without an increase in resolution over the 1080 that tvs can handle now.
i’d like to see somebody bring back VR now that it is actually feasible.

Unless you’re talking about one I haven’t seen, the Samaritan demo was actually just developments for UE3.
Hence me thinking that the ’4′ entitlement might be a little dubious in marking an actual generational shift in visuals, however I sincerely hope to be wrong and blown away!

At least they have given the PSVita current gen memory specs so I hope they will do the same for the PS4 and it finally can match up with the xbox.. (frame rates, resolution etc)
They dropped the ball on memory specs with ps1, ps2 and ps3 so.. I do not get my hope up.. but I can dream..
And I´m with most of the other repliers.. I want a normal controller.. no tablet thingie as default let it be an addon like hud’s or rearview mirror but not main controller.. and psvita sounds perfect.. but hey did’nt they said that rearview mirror thing with the PSP?..
