CoD: Black Ops Has The Best Ending Ever

Yes, really.

Guinness World Records have released a list showing the 50 best video game endings of all time, as voted for by 13,519 gamers. Call of Duty: Black Ops tops that list. The top 5 also included Halo: Reach, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, CoD: Modern Warfare 2 and God of War.

“Everyone has an opinion on how to end a game whether it’s an epic boss fight, a clever plot twist or a 90-minute movie.” said Gaz Deaves, the Gaming Editor for Guinness World Records 2012 Gamer’s Edition.  “This list recognises some of the greatest endings and hopefully will get gamers talking about what are their favourites and why.”

Infamous had a great twist at the end, can’t think of another game that’s really surprised me with it ending.

The fact the mgs scored so low in the list is ridiculous, reach had a good ending but as it was in no way a surprise (everyone knew the end of reach) it in no way deserved to be so high. The fact i barely remember the end of black ops kinda shows how memorable it was.

I do remember though being almost teary as Snake crawled down the irradiated halway being shocked, almost dead, whilst Mei ling watched in terror as her ship was torn apart by rays, Meryl and Jonny fought together and Raidan fought ninja style with no arms. All leading to Snakes fight against ocelot and his emotional meeting with ‘Big Boss'”I’m taking it upon myself to turn zero back to nothing”.

And I haven’t played it through in a long time, but i will now in fact i can’t wait to now.

Hang on a minute… People have played the single player campaign in a Call of Duty game?

This list suggests the survey demographic was skewed towards the younger generation, I wonder where the survey was advertised or who it was sent out to. My vote would go to Abe’s Oddysee, Ico or Mass Effect 2.

Sigh, posts like these make me lose my faith in gaming society, not that i am saying the Cod franchise is rubbish i enjoyed the campaigns in all of the games and most of the games in the list however people are purely voting on it due to multiplayer etc, i sometimes wish the gaming community stayed small and selective.

It was definitely one of the more well done endings of a game. Simple but poignant.

Cool, just playing through the game now for the first time. Not too far off the end actually, well chapter 12 anyway, so I’ll look forward to the ending scenes ;)

Wow can’t believe Blops is at the top of the list. Disappointed to see Bioshock down in 35th, such an amazing story and great twist at the end. I really enjoy the overall story in the AC games as well, and a bit surprised to see them not higher up the list.

I disagree with this list. Why is there only 1 FF game? It can’t be because of one game per series as tis obvious.

No DAO? Why is Fallout 3 on the list as imo the ending is pretty weak.

They didn’t ask enough gamers as i recall none of the major gaming sites reporting on the poll. And it seems a lot of fanboys have used it to vote for their favorite game. :(
