Although the chances of Shenmue 3 are still pretty slim, Sega have thrown a glimmer of hope towards their rabid fanbase by hinting at a HD release of the original game.
In an interview with GameReactor, Sega’s associate brand manager Ben Harborne let the cat out of the bag when asked what games fans requested most for an HD upgrade. According to Harborne, the two most popular games were Shenmue and turn based RPG Skies of Arcadia.
“They’re a couple of our most requested games. I can’t say ‘yes’ or ‘no’, but we may be working on them.”
Time to squee, perhaps?

the whole qte heavy nature of shenmue has me less enthused, but still it wouldn’t be bad to see it back.

News of the week.

… regarding Skies of Arcadia. Shenmue, I’d rather see a current generation sequel.

Is the Yakuza series not sort of a spiritual sequel though?
I have seen a couple of people say this, but i can’t substantiate the claim as whilst i have played the more recent Yakuza’s, i have never even seen Shenmue. :S

Yeah, I’d go along with the Shenmue-Yakuza connection, although I don’t remember Shenmue’s story being quite so expansive and convoluted – though Shenmue as a series was only two games long. I picked up Yakuza 3 for a bit of “it’s just like Shenmue, right?” nostalgia, and in terms of structure, the two series’ seemed pretty much the same.

I’d go along with that. It’d be good to see a culmination to the Shenmue story though.

Absolutely cracking news if this is true ^_^

I have a feeling Shenmue may not have aged well, although I’d like the chance to finish the second game. My money is on them actually working on Skies of Arcadia anyway.

Yip, i mean back then my jaw dropped to the floor when i first ventured out of the house and onto the road. My feelings are that it’s going to look very dated and remind me of that clunky running and ropey dialogue haha!!

Bought the Japanese version of Shenmue because I couldn’t wait, and loved it. My feelings are that it won’t have aged well though.
