Video Shows Off New SimCity 5 Engine

A video has been released showing off Glassbox, the engine that will power the recently announced SimCity 5.

The video shows off the working world and how several factors will affect your game.

It’s still an early build just now but it does look rather fantastic. It is said to be getting released in 2013 so plenty of time to improve on the build. Think it’s time for me to upgrade my PC.

The video is titled “SimCity Insider’s Look GlassBox Game Engine – Part 1” but a quick search seems to show no Part 2. We will update this if it appears.

  1. That is looking really good. And the waiting just got longer.

  2. Can’t wait for this. Been wondering when they would release a new one.

  3. Can’t wait!

  4. looks good, have always enjoyed these sort of games

    • Me too, the only problem with the latest games like this is finding the time to get really stuck in. The earlier games were less complicated and took less time to learn and didn’t need constant user inputs.

  5. I’m actually impressed! Good thing I’ll be putting together a new PC this year because I really want this now.

  6. This looks like it’s too much for my pc to handle, but it’s a long way off yet maybe I’ll upgrade I do want this.

  7. I saw an off screen video of this presentation from GDC. Part 2 shows how agents handle things like fire. A burning building will pulse fire agents that have a chance to spread the fire to surrounding buildings and alarm agents will travel down roads to the nearest fire station, so no more fire station radius !YAY!

The guts of SimCity 5 look incredible! forget having to get a new computer for the graphics, you’ll need a new PC just to handle all of the mechanics.

  8. Yeah, looking good!

  9. Looks great, but didn’t really understand anything he was talking about, lol!

Wish there was a PS3 Sim City or Theme Park or whatever.

  10. Please tell me this is coming out on the PS3 too!?

    • Most likely, unless there’s a change in how EA usually develops the SimCity franchise, SimCity (SimCity 5 really) will release for PC only, with a possible spin-off for consoles later.
