Which GAME Stores Have Been Closed?

Day one.

Looks like the first day of GAME going administration has been particularly brutal.

As far as I can gather, it looks like the 277 stores that have been shut down (between GAME and Gamestation) have been judged entirely on profit, and those not meaning some magical number have had the dreaded phone call from PricewaterhouseCooper.

That’s 277 stores, or just over 2,000 jobs.  Not, as some found it necessary today, something to make light of.  I’ve had family and friends work in GAME over the years, at various levels, and today has been a real shitter for the UK high street and the industry in general.

My own personal condolences to anyone affected.

That’s the huge Game from Plymouth gone but does that mean we still have another game and Gamestation left or will they shut too?

Saw my Gamestation in Harlow shut its doors at lunch. Was a real shame. Didn’t pop to the Game inside as I assumed it had gone too but it’s not on the list. Will check tomorrow

our GAME in Doncaster would have definitely gone, didn’t get much business. Shame to see it go didn’t check out gamestation but that was small-time, would’ve gone too. when i first went down to the one in Leeds, it surprised me how empty it was. Times have changed. where is there now? Donny has Granger games, CEX, Cool spot and game force but other places don’t have that luxury.

That’s my store the Hastings one :’( I guess I was too hopeful and haven’t started to look for new work. I thought it would be a few weeks before shutting stores down.

My Gamestation in Northwich is safe for now! Phew…. to be honest I pretty much single handedly finance it anyway…

    Sad news.
No GAME left in Cork now. :(

By far the best gaming store we’ve had, Gamestop are usually more expensive, and didn’t have as good stock (until recently, obviously).

One small part of HMV is all that’s left to compete with Gamestop now, so I doubt their prices are going to start dropping.

The one I went to in Galway is gone aswell, It’s a pity really as the staff were really nice there, plus they had access to some pretty good special editions. We still have Xtravision aswell as Gamestop.

Smyths toys (maylor st) and Xtravision (blackpool) are two other part-game retailers with a decent selection of new and pre-owned.

        Not really.
        Definitely not Xtra-Vision.
Midleton, where I live, has the biggest Xtra-Vision in the country (or at least did when it opened) and we have a crap selection.

Smyths is very iffy, and never competed with GAME for price.

well i did work at the one Swindon (Havelock SQ). That branch was already destined to close, last day of trading was on Saturday 24th.
Totally shocked about the other Game closing, didn’t see that one coming.

Patrick St, Cork is gone too then. Although i hadn’t really shopped there for some time i bought my ps2 there and the store has been there for so long (15-20 years) it will be sad to see it go and indeed sad for those losing their jobs. Blizzard also let 200 employees go here recently so things are rough for Cork atm. Hope they can all find suitable employment.

A couple of my old local ones have gone, still one left by the look of that list.
Seriously dark day for the industry that I don’t think a lot of people will really get the gravity of until later.
If another chain doesn’t spring up in its place, I hope that whatever indies are left, people will look after.
