BioShock Vita Holding For Infinite’s Completion

Ken Levine has spoken to Wired about BioShock Infinite. As part of that interview, he has mentioned that the entire team at Irrational Games is focussing on finishing up Infinite and that other games are, for the moment, on the back burner.

These games really are all-consuming endeavours. You do want to keep the ball rolling but it is tough to give it your full attention before you finish what you have. But we’re getting there with Infinite.

Fear not, though, Levine did go to great lengths to assure his interviewer that Sony are great partners. He spoke a little about the big E3 appearance last year and how he likes to usually talk about his games. Every mention of Sony and his experience talking about the Vita project – which is still unseen, in any form – was very positive.

Yeah, absolutely. Look, Sony has been –- and I’m not just giving you bullshit here -– a great, great partner to us. You’re going to see some stuff coming up that illustrates that. You know, they just sent me a Vita with a bunch of games, and that’s a tiny thing, but there are so many huge things. They’re very nice to us.

So, some are claiming that the Vita project is on hold. Some are suggesting that it will go the way of Resident Evil PSP and never see the light of day. Given the Vita’s disappointing sales so far that’s certainly a possibility but Levine’s general positivity, along with the idea that Sony’s handheld should at least see a Christmas period before we write it off, suggest otherwise.

  1. It’s make or break time at E3 for the Vita. They had better knock it out of the park and the platform is just going to die a quick and painful death.

    • ^or the platform …

    • I don’t think there will be much at E3, simply because most of the first party studios have just finished launch projects and the third parties are going to wait for better sales. If they can make good on promises of COD, AC and Bioshock though, that’ll be awesome.

  2. Well this seems reasonable, and I’d rather Infinite was perfect with any bugs ironed out. Also, can’t really blame developers putting main consoles over Vita projects given the smaller potential target market. It would be nice if the Vita could be used alongside some PS3 games to give it some more use or some PSN titles adapted for Vita in the meantime!

    • Can’t help thinking it could be delayed further as both previous BS games have had decent and lengthy DLC.

    • Agreed mate, I’d rather infinite be finished properly, I dont think i’ve been this excited for a game in a long time

      • Yeah, it looks awesome – I need to go back and Platinum the first game before October! That Dishonored reminds me of Bioshock a bit due to its attention to detail for its chosen (Victorian) period, so I’m gonna keep an eye on that too!

  3. looking forward to what they do for the Vita.

  4. Sounds like they are playing it safe and focusing on one game at a time. Like Rockstar tends to do, i think. Ooo, i wonder if Bioshock Vita will cover the entire civil war of Rapture? The MP in B2 covered it but it wasn’t in depth.

I think they will show a teaser or a CGI trailer at E3 to reassure people that it’s not been canned. However, the Vita needs a massive kick up the arse and get more games. Even if it’s just ports from the PSP. As the Vita is starting to suffer from the same problem the PS3 had at the begining of it’s life as well as the 3DS.

    • Not sure how infinite would cover the civil war of Rapture, given its now an entirely different setting.

I feel that audio tapes & the multiplayer aspect of the second one have given me as much information as i need about the war in Rapture tbh.

  5. Have no problem with Irrational taking their time. Make Infinite the best game they can, and then focus all their efforts on making the best Vita game they can. Also Ken Levine is a legend.

  6. I’d rather the Vita game was finished and awesome than rushed and awful.
Saying that I’m getting disheartened by the Vita and lack of triple A titles.
Mildly regretting being an early adopter :/

  7. Good move. No matter how decent BioshockVita ends up being, Infinite will be, ahem, infinitely more popular and is therefore where they should be spending their time/resources.
