God Of War, And The Pre-E3 Sony Blowout

Sony’s going all out in ensuring that, during the weeks leading up to E3, all eyes are on them. It’s working so far, it’s safe to argue, with a trio of first party PS3 games leading the charge as we move swiftly towards the crazy season that is early June.

Last week’s All Stars reveal was a smart move – SuperBot’s Smash Bros inspired brawler getting all the column inches and hype as the likes of Kratos and the Fat Princess go toe to toe with some of Sony’s biggest franchise names all adding up to one hell of a game.

But it’s far from the only one – the lid is lifted on God of War: Ascension tomorrow, with the first screens expected to land mid afternoon UK time and at least one high profile site getting their eyes on the latest third person adventure last week in Los Angeles.

Look out for LittleBigPlanet Karting, too, a game that’s apparently getting the big reveal on Wednesday – with the first real gameplay details apparently being pushed out well ahead of Sony’s E3 conference. Which leads us to ask the simple question: why?

Well, we can be optimistic – by getting the games out there and talked about (and it’s not like anyone else is bothering) the PS3 is getting lots of free (well, presumably plane tickets and hotels aside) free press and it’s at a time when nobody else is trying to steal the show.

It also suggests that Sony have greater things to push during their press conference in June – we’re hoping for lots of Vita goodness but there’s still a chance that we’ll hear something about the PlayStation 4, even just in passing at the end.

But most of all this is Sony in confident mode – sure in the ability of the PS3 and those that are developing for it, and we’ve not even mentioned Naughty Dog’s The Last Of Us. The truth is that the PS3 is still shining, and there’s life in the old dog yet…

  1. Haven’t Sony traditionally done this? By that I mean, the last 2 years at least. They announce a certain number of games in the 2 weeks leading up to show to grab the early headlines. Works well in terms of the spotlight being on them now, but then backfires a little if they show said games too often or for too long during their presentation as they aren’t surprises.

    • If you mean the leaks, those were unintentional. :)

      • No, not leaks, they always show publicly a few games on the run up to E3

    • I agree with you, I really hope they have a couple of great surprises lined up for E3, announcing two exclusives within a week of each other doesn’t seem like they’re making the most of it.

    • I don’t like that they reveal a load of games just before E3, sure it gives them a lot more coverage and all eyes are on them but when I actually see the conference it’s underwhelming.

      • They can’t reveal every game they wanted at E3

  2. The PS3 is all great, but somehow the image of a PS4 that magically solves all this current gen’s problems looks rather exciting to me.

No, no one told me it’ll solve anything. It’s wishful thinking.

    • Gonna be hard to convince people for the jump though, need something really new, hope they finally figure out the online stuff which seemed a mystery to the “Japanese lead who gets the saying on what’s happening”?

  3. Wonder if we’ll see The Last Guardian.

    LOL.

    • Oh my.

    • I reckon it’s been shelved, Sony are just too embarrassed to come out and say it.

    • Please god make it so.

    • Dooom, run for your lives.

Forget it, No way they’ll shelve The Last Guardian.

    • Get ready to eat your words…

    • AGENT

      • More like GTA5! But Agent would be freakin’ awesome, just the logo makes me quiver with excitement…

  4. BRILLIANT stuff from SONY, keep it up:P + isn’t there another PS3 Exclusive game news coming in a few days to(er i think) I can’t wait for that + all i would like to hear SONY say at E3 is ‘PS3 is $199 in the US from tomorrow’ :P That would boost PS3 Sales big time in the US i think.

  5. Vita price drop?

    • Don’t need a price drop, just some AAA games.

    • Still needs a price cut.

  6. E3 is going to be great this year.

  7. Ive always liked Sony’s strategy of releasing details about games pre-E3. Means that you can actually really get to grips with them nd they dont get drowned in all the E3 madness. The headlines all ready Sony Exclusives running up to E3 and when E3 hits, its hard to get anything as a headline for more than a min.
I imagine that E3 will have a few surprises from Sony too. They always do. Like David Jaffe and his “Im deffintely not going to E3” E3 appearance. Agent, Syphon Filter, Last Guardian, A megatonne of Vita stuff readfor xmas. Thats all the stuff they hold back till E3.

  8. Quite impressed to be honest, some cracking games coming out soon and for the future.
