Sony Hints At God Of War: Ascension Single Player

[videoyoutube]Whilst Sony were pushing the new God Of War’s multiplayer aspects in the big reveal yesterday, many are waiting on details of Ascension’s single player mode, which is surely going to be the main draw for fans of the series.

So whilst details are sparser than a Spartan’s loincloth, Sony Europe at least were happy to hint at the direction we can expect.

We already know that Ascension is a prequel, but SCEE told us that the game will “show Kratos’ emotional path of redemption” and also detail the “rise of his rage” to break free from Ares’ bond.

The information is full of glossy adjectives – “cinematic”, “visceral”, “blockbuster” – but also suggests that the combat system has been completely revamped and enhanced yet will still feature the “large scale battles” the series is known for.

Other information currently circulating points to a “younger” Kratos, tricked into killing his family and “caged in a titan sized prison for the living damned. Fighting insanity,” continues the press release, “his will is tested to the limit as he seeks to break his bond and gain the clarity to seek revenge on Ares for his part in the death of his family.”

“Armed with double-chained blades, Kratos must take on mythology’s darkest creatures while solving intricate puzzles throughout his merciless quest for redemption”

It’s been long rumoured that the game will also feature two player co-op, we’ll have to wait until E3 for that where hopefully Sony will expand on the information.

  1. two player coop in a game like gow would take me back to my childhood days of sticking 20p’s in the arcade to play golden axe. Awsome!!

  2. Revamped combat system? That might be good. As much as love GoW series, the combat can be kinda dull/repetitive. I would certainly appreciate something similar to the Arkham City with large scale set pieces GoW is known for (and lotsa blood and guts).

  3. Kratos will emotionally lose it all.. and RAGE!!

  4. I think i’ve played this game a couple of times before already…

Seriously though, i’m interested to see this “revamped gameplay” because that’s people’s general complaint about the franchise alongside a good old fashioned angry, blood thirsty spartan.
