TSA Comments: Are SEGA Right To Cancel Bayonetta 2?

You won't be Platinuming this one.

Yesterday it was heavily rumoured that SEGA had cancelled the still unannounced sequel to Bayonetta. Cancelling games isn’t that rare anymore, of course, but this one seemed to hit home to some loyal fans.

The first game was a solid fighter that attracted plenty of attention due to its innovative mechanics and – at least on 360 – impressive visuals. I imported the Japanese version of the game (on PS3) and wished I’d waited, but it’s still well worth picking up.

“We’ve heard all the rumors on the net. What do you guys think? Too bad it got cancelled, huh?” said one of the original game’s developers overnight.

With a sequel now apparently out of the picture, and Platinum Games a project down, how do you feel about the game only being a one-off? Are SEGA right to only concentrate on their core IPs after all their restructuring?

I can understand Platinum Games frustration. Bayonetta and Vanquish are terrific games and some of the best this gen, yet they sold terribly. Much as I would love to see a Bayonetta2 I would imagine they are looking at it thinking “what’s the point?”.
Release a shallow, repetitive military-FPS at the same time guys, that will definitely get you some money for future projects :P

Vanquish! what a truely Underated game! I would welcome a Vanquish 2 with open arms.

:) Granted the story/voice acting left much to be desired but otherwise I loved it. Gears of War with robots and without the feeling you are constantly walking through thick sludge.

Who owns the IP? Can Platnium games change publisher?

I’m guessing it’s part of their deal with SEGA or something.

Well as a crazy fan i’d rather see it end as it is without stretching it to a sequel that ruins the integrity of the story and is just looking to sell itself.

    But… no, that’s it.

i enjoyed the demo, though i haven’t played the full game.
i would not be averse to seeing a sequel.

it would be nice to see the DMC series get a rival.

i guess it all hinges on how big a seller the game was.
mediocre games that sell well, get sequels, great ones that don’t, sadly don’t.

i really need to pick that game up one day.

I’m happy with cancelling it. I would like a second Vanquish though!

Does even need a sequel? I’m sure Platinum Games said that they’d only work on new ips or something?

they must have changed their minds then as they’re making the new metal gear game.

Bayonetta was a weird one for me, I really wanted to like it due to the awesome mechanics, but the game and its presentation of women was so puerile and dated that I rapidly lost interest. So whilst it’s a shame for the fans if this rumour is true, as Bayonettas combat model was very good indeed, it just wasn’t aimed at me.
