David Cage: Five More Years Of PS3 ‘Fine With Me’

David Cage, creator of Heavy Rain and whatever Kara ends up being, has said he is “not that interested in technology or the next generation of consoles” and would be quite happy to work on the PlayStation 3 for another five years.

“Are there technical things I can’t do on PS3? Honestly, no,” he said, “the limitation is much more about the ideas we have. When you look at the past, you realised that the technology evolved must faster than the concepts we rely on.”

“What do I expect from the next generation of hardware?” he continued, “You know, the usual. More polys, and, higher resolution texture maps, and, horsepower, and, stuff. Wow.”

“It’s so cool and exciting.”

He is being sarcastic, in case you couldn’t tell.

Cage went on to say Quantic Dream and Sony have “a great understanding” and they “work exclusively for Sony, who expect us to show what their hardware can do”.

  1. “Are there technical things I can’t do on PS3? Honestly, no.”

    Sure thing, David.

  2. If every company would be like Naughty Dog, i’d agree with this. I’m very satisfied with my Uncharted 3’s graphics.

    • Uncharted 3’s graphics with max payne 3’s AI and euphoria engine.

      Another 5 years?

      YES PLEASE!

      • I would also be more than ok with this. Not really looking forward to “nextgen”.

  3. Ok David, that’s alright, now get back to working on that damn game you’re taking forever to announce it!

  4. Why is it just as developers start to get to grips with console technology its time to move on.

  5. Nice that he has confidence in ps3 but it’s a bit odd not being interested in newer and probably better tech.

    • More polygons <> better games

      • No, but “better tech” does not just mean more polygons. The advances in power means better AI, which I’m sure Mr. Cage would really appreciate considering his long-standing attitude regarding infusing emotion in game.

I find his comments to be very … odd. As a creative person, having better tools helps fashion your vision. Could Michelangelo draw something awesome with a bic pen? Absolutely. But I’m pretty sure he’d prefer the finest brushes and oils in the land.

      • indeed. sounds like PR speak from cage to me.

      • Michelangelo hated drawing and painting, he was a sculptist. In fact, when he was forced to paint the Sistine Chapel he actually painted it so that God was mooning the Pope.

      • Eh? So? He was an artist. He used multiple mediums. His fondness of one medium over another has no relevance to my analogy.

  6. Is this a prelude to “PS4 coming later than nextbox720”?

  7. I presume this is because his next project is a PS3 game & he’s worried that a few million of the ‘core’ (the people most likely to buy his game) will have purchased a PS4

  8. Id prefer if they didnt do a new genration within the next 2 or 3 years, i dont think id be able to get one
