We’re not even into our first day covering this year’s E3 expo, and already we find ourselves buried under a barrage of pre-emptive announcements and teasing tid bits. Tecmo KOEI, the hybrid publisher behind Ninja Gaiden, Dynasty Warriors and Dead or Alive, hasn’t taken a back seat in stoking the pre-show coals, having released an image depicting one of the company’s new titles.
We’re inclined to say this is yet another instalment in the Warriors franchise though solid evidence of this being the case is sparse. The image above clearly denotes a battlefield setting, highlighted by the burning buildinga and banner in the foreground, though isn’t very indicative of Three Kingdoms-era China or feudal Japan. It’s worth mentioning that this may not even be a KOEI title and could be a new IP from Tecmo.
Personally, my money is on a sequel to last year’s Warriors: Legends of Troy, or if not, a completely new IP aimed at Western gamers. Casting a quick glance at TK’s track record, the publisher’s latest string of heavy-hitters (including Warriors Orochi 3, Dynasty Warriors 7, and Ninja Gaiden 3) were announced at other events, notably GDC and TGS. The last memorable E3 reveal for TK was Warriors: Legends of Troy, and despite middling reviews, KOEI has a habit of expanding its numerous series no matter how niche the audience.
