Microsoft's New Music Service Unveiled at E3

Hey, listen!

We all expected this. Microsoft has just announced a revamp of their music service on Xbox 360. It’s called Xbox Music, imaginatively, and it will completely replace Zune across platforms.

It will work on Windows 8 tablets and smartphones too. Although there was no explicit mention of iOS or Android, it would be madness to restrict this to their own limited Windows Phone market, surely?

Basically, although few details were provided, it looks like a kind of Spotify clone with Zune features too. It all looks very much like the new 360 Dashboard and the Windows 8 Metro interface, as you would expect.

Let’s see if it takes off more successfully than Zune did.

That is the msot generic name that they could have come up with. In fact, i’m begining to think that they paniced yesterday when they remebered that they still have to name it.

can see a lot of arguments happening in living rooms over who gets to use the 360. ;)
