Quantic Dream Show Off Beyond At E3

Two Souls.

Sony’s E3 press conference kicked off a little slower than the previous conferences but it was Jack Tretton presenting and I love him so we won’t complain. After a lengthy introduction and a token nod at Kaz Hirai, David Cage arrived to tell us about Quantic Dream’s new IP – Beyond.

It sounds like a bit of an exploration of themes around the afterlife, some complex ideas and emotional interplay at work too. Ellen Page is starring, as rumoured, which feel like quite a big deal for our young industry. It takes place over a 15 year span and looks gorgeous. There’s a definite supernatural feel to it, as you might expect with death and the afterlife playing such an integral part.

Cage said the footage shown was “real time” and we were very impressed at the advances in character animations and facial modelling since Heavy Rain. Really incredible stuff.

Looking back at the redesign of Ellie for the last of us, Maybe this was why. Still, that was damn impressive.

Bet Naughty Dog weren’t happy when Cage called and told them who he had in the mocap studio…

Great trailer, I just hope they don’t screw up the controls this time around. We get that David Cage loves awkward controls but don’t make them awkward just to have a different control scheme than everyone else. Implement them so they feel natural. I thought Heavy Rain was unique in that way but then I saw Fahrenheit and those controls were just as bad…
