I have had many arguments with people who are classing Wii U as ‘Next Gen’ so perhaps this comparison shot of Batman Arkham City running on both PS3 and Wii-U will convince my opponents that Wii U is very much ‘this gen’, in specifications, if not numbering conventions.
Even taking into consideration Batman’s new armoured suit and its apparent sheen, it’s quite apparent that the Wii-U is lacking the definition and textures in the cityscape found in the PS3 version of the game. Differences are minimal but the Wii U certainly doesn’t look like a generational leap in comparison to anything but the Wii. Perhaps that’s the point.
A placeholder price of £280 has been suggested for the Wii-U but you could buy a PS3 and a copy of Batman for around £200.

I never thought the Wii U was going to be next gen. Ninty have pretty much given up trying to compete in that department. This is the console they should have released 6 years ago to compete with the Xbox and PS3.

Isn’t this question redundant? Its a port of a PS3 game so of course it’ll have PS3 level graphics, their not going to dramatically upgrade a game’s graphics for a new platform. Wii-U’s graphical potential will be shown by games built for the ground up for the Wii U.

Not a big deal for me. Most people (including myself) buy Nintendo products mainly for the exclusives and the Wii-U looks to have plenty of those already. The fact games like Batman and Mass Effect are coming to it are a nice bonus and nothing more.

As every one else said. This is just a port from PS3 and it’s early days of the console, so they’re graphics aren’t going to be amazing.

Exactly. I posted this early, and I’ll say it again. The Wii U is already getting the 2006 PS3 publicity. Too much attention to detail, and quick to judge based off of ports.

Batman seems to have used Batpolish on his Batsuit on the Wii U but a port of a PS3/360 game is not the way to show what your console is capable of. Even if it’s a tech demo, it’s still worth doing it as it’s a better way then this. Plus, not many people buy Ninty consoles for graphics but for gameplay.

This has probably been picked up by someone else above, but regarding the statement:
‘it’s quite apparent that the Wii-U is lacking the definition and textures in the cityscape found in the PS3 version of the game’
Surely the blurriness of the cityscape in the Wii U version is down to a depth-of-field effect? That’s what it looks like to me anyway.
Also…is it really sensible to attempt to make a judgement of the Wii U’s version based on a couple of screenshots?

I take it no-one else read this?

It doesn’t look greaat, even on exclusive titles.

how pointless, bravo on such poor journalism

Wii U is next gen because Nintendo consoles never have the graphic capability of the PlayStation’s or Xbox’s. So when PS4 and Xbox 3 join the Wii U, it’s graphics will be outdated.
