Just Add Water Give Up On Microsoft As A Publisher For Stranger's Wrath HD

PSN version still well supported.

Stranger’s Wrath HD is fairly widely praised by old fans and newcomers. By all accounts, Just Add Water did a fantastic job with the remake, something a quick trip to Metacritic will confirm.

So it’s odd that Microsoft don’t seem to want it on XBLA. We’ve seen people at JAW fairly regularly mention that the game is being turned down for publication on Microsoft’s digital download service, for one reason or another. First it was their size limitations, then there were suggestions about critical response or sales figures. It’s all a bit weird, really.

Eurogamer is reporting (incorrectly, as it happens) that the game is now definitely not coming to 360. The actual truth of the story seems to be that Microsoft is stubbornly refusing to publish the title so Just Add Water will now be trying to find a third party publisher who will get the title up on XBLA.

When asked, via Twitter if they’d given up on the 360 completely the response was perfectly clear: “just on MS being the publisher. We are talking to 2 3rd party publishers, but nothing is certain.” Of course, as they go on to note themselves, they can’t hang around forever so if the game isn’t snapped up soon, they’ll have to move on. That would be a real shame for those single console gamers who would miss one of the best HD remakes available.

On a related note, the studio’s excellent support for the PlayStation 3 version will get another big shot in the arm next week with a huge patch bringing 3D and Move support, among other enhancements like video capture and upload. Maybe if they found a way to shoehorn Kinect control into it, there’d be more chance of Microsoft paying attention?

Here’s the trailer for that patch, in case you’re on the fence:

Microsoft are borderline moronic with some decisions.

their loss, some other publisher will pick it up and make money on it.

i bet it’s because they couldn’t have it exclusively for the xbox.

it’s the devs and the 360 owners that really lose out here.
hopefully they a smarter publisher and they can get something back for the work they did making the 360 version, and the 360 players get to play the game.

It’s a great game and the HD remake was well worthwhile. Seems absurd Microsoft refusing to publish it considering that it was originally an xbox-exclusive.

Strange decision by Microsoft, the game is a real gem that I’d have thought would do well on XBLA.
Great gameplay, great graphics, wonderful gamesave system, soon to have 3D support and move compatibilty, the humour is great and had me lolling often. And they are even throwing in YouTube support, which isn’t seen on many retail games!!
    Where’s the risk?

Additionally, the main gameplay element is basically a FPS isn’t it? Surely they are most at home on the Xbox?

Yup, free roam (to an extent) mission based FPS, with a twist….you can collect the enemy in your satchel bag (dead or alive and injured) :P

Microsoft would rather see the game removed from PSN or even have a superior copy to make it a Xbla exclusive as what why I take that many games have had a article of it being turned down which to me is ridiculous (like my English).

Silly because I just think its a great game it should easily be on Xbox.

Microsoft remind me of EA. They just try and buy exclusivity over their rivals. Instead of new and innovative ideas they simply just say “No, F*** the competition its our way or the highway.” I wouldn’t be surprised if this is another example of that and I hate it. The consumer loses everytime with this and to be honest nobodies going to do anything about it! Bloodboiling.

The game at hand is actually really cool, I love all the quirky little cutscenes and all of this is translated well into the actual game. It’s super fun to play. Gamers of the 360 ose out here and they can do nothing about it.

Started playing this last night as I got it free on PS+. Have only finished the first mission so far but its definitely a game I’ll see through, even if its just to fire more chipmunks at enemies.

What a stupid move, refusing a game from XBLA! I bet it’s because the PS3 version is superior with 3D and Move. If it wasn’t on PSN, it wouldn’t have been refused to be put on XBLA.
