Rumour: New 4000 Model PS3 “Super Slim” Lands September 28th

Whilst it’s tricky to put too much stock into message board posts as concrete proof, news that we’ll finally see the much rumoured CECH-4000 redesign hitting isn’t exactly a stretch.

Posts over on NeoGAF have pointed out that September 28th is the likely release date for the new model – days after this year’s Tokyo Game Show and would tie in nicely with a couple of big releases.

Namely, FIFA and the complete Gran Turismo re-release.

As stated, none of this is confirmed and thus it’s clearly marked as a rumour. But the poster seems confident and seeing as everyone expected the 4000 to be announced at Gamescom, a TGS reveal seems perfectly possible.

  1. been thinking of upgrading 1 of my hdds recently might aswell hold out and just get a new console for the collection.

  2. Logistically though, how will Stores be able to stock it in time? Unless they’ll release it on the 28th in Japan, with other regions to follow…

  3. No doubt it will come with a Wonderbook bundle. I really wonder about price – I need a new ps3 upstairs to replace my phat model that makes a terrible noise.

  4. Am I the only one that thinks this is ugly? I seriously think they need some new designers or something… Even I can make a better design that that lol

    • It’s not great looking but it’s probably a bit of a compromise to get the price down as much as possible by Sony e.g. pop up lid to remove the expense of a motorised disc tray.

  5. PS3 price dropped a week ago plus, saw the 320gb for £160 at HMV so this new model must be out soon then.
