The hugely anticipated Grand Theft Auto V has been delayed. Originally due in the Spring, Rockstar’s widely sought-after open world adventure is now due in September.
“Dear all,” starts the statement from the developers. “Today, we have an official release date to share with you: Grand Theft Auto V will arrive in stores on September 17, 2013.”
“We know this is about four months later than originally planned and we know that this short delay will come as a disappointment to many of you, but, trust us, it will be worth the extra time.”
“GTAV is a massively ambitious and complex game and it simply needs a little more polish to be of the standard we and, more importantly, you require.”
GTA V is our top 5 anticipated game for 2013.
“To all Grand Theft Auto fans, please accept our apologies for the delay, and our promise that the entire team here is working very hard to make the game all it can be.”
“We are doing all we can to help ensure it will meet if not exceed your expectations come September – we thank you for your support and patience.”
There’s no particular reason for the delay other than the “polish” line, but this would put the game squarely in the path of the oncoming next generation of consoles – not a great place to be.
And so the teasing begins anew.

I’d rather have a more polished game obviously, but what I’d like even more is a PC announcement!
Yeah, surely for a game like GTA, there could be a way to produce console and PC games at the same time, for the same release window, but noooo, I have to buy the game twice.
Pretty sure you don’t HAVE to buy it twice! ;)
Is it suffering from GT5-itis?
If there’s a day one patch….
Also could do with a nice new image set to keep us chugging along.
Hmm! Falling behind the date that the next gen of consoles will probably be announced. Could be disastrous if they release in Sept and next gen hits in time for xmas, they can kiss quite a fair amount of sales bye bye!
However on the flip side, it keeps creeping, who is to say it might not creep itself all the way into being a dual-console launch title.
Can’t blame then being scared to go up against The Last Of Us :)
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDDDDDDDDDDDD! Ahem, i mean that is disappointing and i was going to get it on release as a late birthday present depending on the release date but seeing as it’s been delayed, that won’t happen. Will be interesting to see if GTA5 can outsell COD as they are both released in within months of each other and GTA tends to sell well as well as murdering it’s way to the number one spot for a few weeks.
The power of Naughty Dog.
You don’t know the power of the Dog!
I doubt it’s because of them, Rockstar generally tend to not care about other games and take their time. Suspect they just need the extra time to enlarge the boobs on the hookers. I mean, extra time to polish the game.
sure.
keep telling yourself that lol.
It is actually because they need more time on it. TLOU is lucky that GTA5 has been delayed as it would have been buried by it. But i’m glad it’s been delayed as i won’t have to choose between TLOU and GTA5. :D
like nobody saw this coming. It doesn’t matter when GTAV ships, its going to sell and I’m going to buy it over any other game.
Personally I don’t give a damn about GTA but I do recognize that is has a massive impact on games coming out in its release window. In other words: I’m a really happy on The Last Of Us’ behalf. And yes, Killzone: Mercenary should probably be delayed a couple of weeks despite being on a different platform.
They moved it because the PS4 is coming out… How do i know??? Some guy in the Pub told me… LoL:D
Or they need more time and i doubt that they will delay it just for the PS4 as that’s yet to be announced. Plus, they’ve developed it for the current lot.
Nooooooooo!!!
