Sony’s 2013 range of television sets boast a brand new, rotated XMB interface. The video below shows a Bravia W900 in action (shown off in Weybridge last week after Sony’s CES demos), and it’s clearly a snappy, easy to use UI. Expect to see this in multiple devices this year.
Whether or not we’ll see anything like this in the PS4 is obviously up for discussion, but with Sony moving on from the traditional horizontal XMB strips in their TVs, it’s unlikely to be returning for their next generation console. Hopefully we’ll find out soon enough.

Anyone else spot how similar it is (font etc) it is to the current ps store? My guess is the whole xmb in the next console will be similar to what we see in the store now.

I was just about to point that out. I like the XMB as it is though, think it’s a great design they should keep.

This is XMB Version 3, The other one was kind of like the XMB aligned at the bottom and items along the right, with the video feed filling the rest of the screen, looked heavy and obtrusive.
Keeping the concept is a good idea, buy it does need to be pulled in with the times.

I like it, nice and simple, no superfluous wank.
duke, your response from Sony about Singstar is gutting and disappointing :(

Looks similar to the updated store. Be very surprised if everything sony doesn’t conform to this style fairly soon.

Looks pretty nice as a style, could probably do with a bit of fiddling and trying different approaches but like everyone else I enjoy the minimalistic approach. Give the users the opportunity to use folders to store things however they want to, if it all, and make it quick to load. All the other stuff like different backgrounds is bells and whistles

I suspect Sony will try to find an interface with a lot more character for the PS4, something new and futurism in look and interactivity. I could see something along the lines of the new store “feature” page where you side swipe to go further, or something along the lines of a giga-picture, both with “kinect-like” interface. Lets not forget TV menus are made simply so everyone can use them, but gamers want something with a little more depth and style. Although however its designed I’m sure some sort of advertising feature will be the primary base.

I think clean is better for common user interfaces, the stores fine for the weekly browse, but would probably a bit too heavy for a multimedia piece of hardware that consoles are these days.

I apologise for the random unfocusing, not sure what the SLT was doing.

It’ll either be quite like this (good) or like the current PSN store (shudders)

new store is great once you get the hang of it.

Looks wa*k like the old 360 Dash. Horrible.

I like it would be happy with this on PS4 in some form.

I like it. Who needs pretty, practicallity is far more important.
As long as it works sharply when looking at it mid game, I’ll be happy.
