New Batman Arkham Game Possibly Releasing This Year, Not from Rocksteady

Batman: Arkham Asylum and its sequel, Arkham City are two of the greatest superhero games of recent times, if not ever. So, it would be great to see another game releasing this year.

And according to VG247 – who seem to know something more than they’re letting on – that’s just the case. Their original source links back to a forum post apparently quoting a Time Warner press release. The post is from an administrator of the forum, so it doesn’t seem like a hoax, but there’s nothing official to suggest it’s the truth, either.

And we also have a strong games release this year, which will include the next release in the Batman Arkham franchise. So all in all, we expect Warners to post another very strong year in 2013. And with a little luck, the year should be as good or maybe even a little bit better than 2012.

It would be nice to see an Arkham game release alongside the new PlayStation and Xbox, later this year, though Warner may be referencing the next financial year – which runs until March 2014.

What’s interesting is that VG247’s own source has confirmed that the game won’t be developed by Rocksteady studios, the team behind the last two Arkham titles. Perhaps they’re still working on the reported Silver Age 1950s Batman game, which will be separate from the Arkham franchise.

A double dose of Batman? I’m not complaining.

  1. Unsure what to think of Rocksteady not doing the next Arkham game. They did an excellent job with AC and in my opinion, should be the only developer that is allowed to do the Batman games but Warner could give a small developer the chance to shine as i remeber Rocksteady making a name for themselves with Batman:AA. Hopefully, the new Bat game won’t feature a lot of Batvillians but will have a more complex plot as some villains in Batman:AC just served as filler.

  2. I’d prefer it if Rocksteady were not doing the next game. The first one was awesome, the second one was tiresome and was all the same ideas but with added ‘bonus’ of having of fly half way across the map to each sodding mission.

    • Good point, though I’m not sure if another developer can do it better. I mean, Rocksteady nailed it with AA in my opinion. I’ve yet to play AC. Incidentally I think Arkham Asylum is 2.49 on Steam’s daily deal.

  3. I agree with both these comments. While whoever is doing it has got some big shoes to fill, like Tuffclub I really didn’t think AC was a patch on AA. hopefully new blood will inject something new into the game while building on the the solid base laid down by Rocksteady.

  4. Could this just be someone not realising Injustice, Gods Amongst Us isnt actually an Arkham game?

  5. I think they should go for another superhero, the Arkham games are just too similar so meh I don’t know what they could do to be different. It would be great to see some sort of Green Lantern, Superman.. or even a Justice League game. They’ve barely had good games its disgusting.
