Sony Kick Off A Series Of "Evolution Of PlayStation" Videos Ahead Of PS4 Reveal

Starting at the beginning, obviously, with the PSone.

Sony are pretty serious about this February 20th reveal, and their marketing efforts are certainly stepping up as the event looms quickly – it’s now just a matter of days before New York hosts the big event. The video above, released this evening, is the first in a series called “Evolution of PlayStation” and showcases the early years of the brand.

“PlayStation’s arrival to the world of gaming signaled a change in the status quo and a sign of things to come. The original PlayStation system emerged in 1994 in Japan as a dark horse challenger, a seemingly outgunned newcomer entering a crowded field dominated by legends of the 16-bit era,” said Sony’s Sid Shuman on the PlayStation Blog.

“Accompanied by a powerful salvo of titles including WipEout, Crash Bandicoot, and Gran Turismo, PlayStation’s rapid rise marked the end of one era of videogames and the dawn of another. The world was never the same.” Those are strong words, Sid. Let’s hope the PlayStation 4 lives up to this massive amount of hype the platform holder is currently building.

has it really been nearly 20 years?
way to make me feel old sony, thanks for that. >_<

anyway, i don't know if excited is the word to use for me feelings about this event on the 20th, but i am eager to find out exactly what will be shown.

was that whole "we'll wait and see what the others do first" line a smokescreen to throw them off the scent before they made their reveal first?

kinda devious, i like it. ^_^

Doesn’t seem that long ago. Loved the original GT, there was nothing like it at the time.
Can’t wait to see what Sony will reveal.

I don’t really understand Sony’s “we’ll wait and see what the others do first” comment. That comment was made not too long ago so surely, if MS was ready to show something, they would still have been able to throw Sony off.

Do you get the feeling that Sony are still smarting from launching the PS3 late and are going balls out for this? I do. Well done them.
